First Look: 3 Moments We Loved In ‘Are You Sure?!’ Starring BTS’ Jimin And Jungkook

We’re sure about our love for this duo

They may be busy with their mandatory military service, but BTS’ Jimin and Jungkook made sure to leave fans with lots of entertainment to keep them company. First, Jimin’s sophomore solo album, MUSE, has been taking over global charts. Meanwhile, Jungkook’s documentary film GOLDEN: The Moments is set to be released in theatres starting 30 August. Between those releases, the Busan Boys duo — coined from their same hometown in South Korea — prepared a lighthearted treat in the form of Are You Sure?!, their travel show that’s now airing on Disney+ Singapore.

The eight-episode travelogue sees the dynamic ace duo embarking on side trips to New York City and Connecticut in the United States, Sapporo in Japan, and Jeju Island in South Korea.

TheBeauLife had a chance to get a sneak peek at the first two episodes thanks to Disney+, so we’re here to spill some tea and spread the love for these talented men. Below, I share three moments that stood out to me — as an ARMY whose ultimate bias line comprises these two members — that would entice you to give this show a watch too.

Review: Are You Sure?! starring BTS’ Jung Kook and Jimin

1. Meeting K-pop idols in the wild

Jimin and Jungkook settle in for a stay in a cabin in the woods.

It’s every fan's dream to meet their idol by chance, right? But have you ever wondered how they’d react in that situation? Through the show, we see this exact situation unfold. During one of their supermarket excursions in the US, Jimin and Jungkook happen to meet a fan who asks if they’re from BTS. Jimin honestly said “Yes,” while Jungkook hilariously said “Maybe” — catching both Jimin and the ARMY off guard. Jokesters, these boys!

As a bonus, the exact fan posted about this encounter on X (formerly Twitter). No, ARMY, it wasn’t a dream and we can only wallow in envy of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The cheeky moment may have been brief but, coupled with their stay in the woods with only the basic amenities, gives us a closer insight into their personal lives and how they also look for ways to decompress and have fun away from the fanfare of performing hit songs onstage.

2. Jimin and Jungkook’s unfiltered moments

Jimin and Jungkook's yacht ride in New York

Jimin and Jungkook take a break from their full-time jobs as Korea’s superstars with a relaxing yacht ride.

As superstars under the international spotlight, Jimin and Jungkook often don’t get to show as much of their unfiltered thoughts as you’d expect. More so as Korean idols, who are held to super high (and often restrictive) standards in terms of decorum and attitude. So it’s refreshing to see these pop superstars be more open — something that, in my opinion, is also drawn out by each other’s presence. It’s also very reminiscent of their early years when they directly communicated with fans on Twitter.

The show was filmed during Jungkook’s promotions in New York for his debut solo album GOLDEN. During a break in his schedule, he and Jimin decide to go for a little side quest-slash-getaway in New Jersey. From the trailer, we already knew it would be filled with laughter, savouring food (Jungkook is known to be a foodie), and adventures on yachts and motorcycles.

Moments after Jungkook’s unplanned dip into the water.

But after watching the show, you’d know that all of that laughter comes from a combination of Jimin’s jokes (which he finds hilarious BTW), Jungkook’s childlike wonder (our boba ball incarnate), and a series of unfortunate events — including Jimin’s stomach problems and Jungkook’s untimely dip into the river while kayakking. It’s like they get a serotonin boost from being together and likewise, as viewers, we feel the same way seeing them happy.

Multiple times throughout the show, the duo keeps wondering if the show will even air due to the authenticity of the unscripted (and very human!) moments as well as how they feel unsure about their planned activities. We can only say that we’re happy it did end up available for streaming and can’t wait to see more of it in future episodes.

3. Caring for each other, even more than a decade later

Jungkook and Jimin in Sapporo during winter

That’s the chemistry fostered over more than a decade.

In South Korea, the relationship between older and younger friends is upheld in every interaction. It’s always been evident in how the rest of BTS take care of Jungkook, the maknae (youngest), and it’s further emphasised through the show. We can see how Jimin takes care to give Jungkook some of his food when he’s busy and checks on his welfare during his busy promotions.

However, there are times when these roles are reversed. Jimin lived his best life as a passenger princess, with Jungkook taking the wheel most of the time. Jungkook was also the designated cook, experimenting with his own recipes for carbonara, grilled marinated pork, and more. To be honest, sometimes we don’t know who we’re more envious of while watching!

We also caught glimpses of Jimin’s then work-in-progress album MUSE, which Jungkook had the chance to listen to before anyone else. Oh, the privilege of being in the same band!

First impressions and overall sentiments on Are You Sure?!

It’s heartwarming to see the popular duo partaking in ordinary activities, such as sightseeing road trips and experimenting with cooking recipes, and manage to transform these into extraordinary core memories due to their close friendship.

There are moments of hilarity (who would’ve expected Jimin to be the kind to laugh at his own jokes and Jungkook would have a dry sense of humour?), peace (that yacht ride looked super relaxing based on Jimin and Jungkook’s nap), and overall happiness from seeing two of my favourite artists enjoying their time of rest together.

The two episodes covered their US trip, so I’m excited to see how their dynamics would be against the autumnal background of Jeju Island and the fairytale-like winter scenery of Sapporo, especially knowing that these were shot closer to the date of their military enlistment. Would they be excited to fit in as much time to have fun before they do their civic duty? Or maybe calmer knowing that they prepared lots of entertaining content for ARMY while they were away serving? We can’t wait to find out.

Also, it made me miss the rest of BTS more than I already do. Sniff, sniff.
