Key ingredients: What’s inside this newly reformulated daily SPF from Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow range?

Review of Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Dew Shield Hydrating Fluid SPF 30

The Watermelon Glow Dew Shield sports the range’s signature pink packaging.

From coffee-flavoured lip balms to matcha-coded fragrances, food sensory marketing in beauty is having its moment in the spotlight. However, Glow Recipe has long championed this movement, incorporating and highlighting fruit in its product formulations. This is not a fad, but a philosophy they’ve followed for years.

A reformulation of its OG sunscreen released in 2022, this sunscreen contains glycerin, watermelon seed oil, and Vitamin E to calm and soothe dry and irritated skin while decreasing the appearance of redness. Niacinamide is added to the mix too, with its brightening benefits, and to support the skin barrier.

The product also features clean chemical UV filters — avobenzone, homosalate, and octisalate — to shield the skin against UVA and UVB rays, reducing dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the cheeks caused by sun exposure. In addition, it is also designed to improve the skin’s texture and minimise the appearance of pores.

Application test: Smooth, lightweight feel with a distinct watermelon scent

Twist, squeeze and spread: The texture of the Watermelon Glow Dew Shield.

True to its name, the Watermelon Glow Dew Shield has a light, fluid texture that blends effortlessly into the skin. Ideal for hot, humid climates, the formula is refreshingly weightless — no sticky residue or heavy feel.

When I wore this out under the midday sun at the Botanic Gardens, it didn’t leave a white cast and layered well under my liquid foundation and powder blush. It gave me a subtle dewy glow, too, sans any unwanted grease and shine from sweating.

It does have a distinct watermelon scent, though, which could be a concern for those with sensitive skin. I was relieved to experience zero irritation — no itching, redness, or breakouts despite my sensitivity to fragrance.

‘Dew’ we love the Watermelon Glow Dew Shield? We like it, but it’s hard for us to part with our holy grails

She’s pink and packed with skin-loving goodies.

There’s no denying that the sunscreen space is crowded. Korean beauty brands impress with their serum-like SPFs, while Western heavyweights offer prestige formulas packed with anti-ageing actives. And with tinted SPFs streamlining our beauty routines even further, any new launch has to face stiff competition.

So, does the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Dew Shield stand out?

It’s a compelling contender — its clinically proven hydration benefits, skin-loving ingredients, and lightweight finish make this a good addition to any beauty lover’s roster. Plus, as sunscreen is something which you’ll use daily, it offers more value for money than an overpriced red lipstick. Consider us fans of this newly reformulated product.

That said, it’s priced at SGD57 per 50ML, which is two to almost three times more than similar K-beauty SPFs in the market. My current go-to is also from a Korean brand, featuring a comfortable, fluid-like texture and skin-soothing ingredients, all while coming with a wallet-friendly price tag.

It ultimately boils down to your priorities: ingredient list, finish, fragrance and budget.
