All-day long hydration?

Clinique's Moisture Surge moisturiser is well-loved for its hydrating perks, in addition to being free from parabens, phthalates and fragrance — perfect for those who are reactive to such ingredients a.k.a. those with sensitive skin. #TBLBureau Features Writer Sheryl Tng is one of these folks. As someone who’s constantly wary of trying products with fragrance, finding fragrance-free options like the Clinique Moisture Surge moisturiser is exciting. Read on to see if the lightweight moisturiser will keep her combination sensitive skin hydrated and irritation-free.

First impressions, claims, and packaging

Pretty and peachy, the Clinique Moisture Surge promises to keep skin hydrated all day long and some change.

"I’ve heard only good things about Clinique," Sheryl shared. This set up her expectations for the Clinique Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. The oil-free moisturiser comes in a luxurious glass jar with a screw cap to keep the product tightly sealed when closed. "It does look beautiful on my vanity because of its sleek jar design and peachy colour."

The Clinique Moisture Surge was recently updated to contain an exclusive aloe bio-ferment that helps the product absorb deeper into the skin. It also contains hyaluronic acid for added hydration.

Clinique also formulated the moisturiser with Auto-Replenishing Technology, which the brand claims will “help skin create its own internal water source to continually rehydrate itself, then lock in moisture for an endlessly plump, healthy looking glow.” The moisturiser’s blend of ingredients and technology promise to keep your complexion hydrated for up to 100 hours.

The moisturiser has a light pink-peach hue and gel-cream texture that surprised Sheryl. "The product gets absorbed quickly into my skin, so it doesn’t feel greasy or oily at all. It glides smoothly onto the skin and has a subtle cooling effect."

Application and use

The moisturiser is light enough to be worn during the day, even in sunny Singapore.

After using the product twice a day for over a week — after cleansing and toning — Sheryl noticed that her skin felt smoother, softer, and more hydrated. Any existing redness and sensitivity, which she usually experiences on her cheeks and chin, were calmed and soothed after applying the moisturiser. She thinks the aloe-ferment ingredient is the one to thank for this, because it has known soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Clinique also claims that you can use the Moisture Surge moisturiser as a five-minute hydrating mask. As someone who has experienced breakouts due to using regular sheet masks, this sounded like heaven to Sheryl's ears. She used a thicker layer of the product in the evening, which flooded her skin with soothing moisture.

However, she does wish that the moisturiser came with a beauty spatula or some form of applicator. Since it has a jar packaging, you need to dip your fingers into the product in order to apply it to your face. "It’s not the easiest to retrieve the product without accidentally getting some of it onto the jar cap," Sheryl shared.

Final thoughts

Looking for a hydrating and soothing fragrance-free moisturiser? This is it.

While she can't exactly vouch for the product's claims of 100-hour hydration since she reapplies it within a 12-hour window, Sheryl loved the weightless, long-lasting hydrating barrier it offered between her skin and her protective face masks. The product helped reduce the increased irritation, sensitivity, and redness she's been having from prolonged mask-wearing.

Sheryl found that it can also double as a hydrating product for the body, thanks to its light and hydrating texture. Any dry zones on her hands, elbows, and neck area are immediately softened with a light coat of the Clinique Moisture Surge. It's light and non-greasy, so folks with any skin type and/or living in hot, humid climates can enjoy it too.

If you want to try this moisturiser, you can get it in Singapore for SGD78 for 50ML through the Clinique LazMall Flagship Store, Sephora stores, Sephora.sg, Metro Causeway Point, Metro Paragon, Takashimaya, BHG Bugis, One Assembly, TANGS Orchard, TANGS VivoCity, OG People's Park, Isetan Nex, Isetan Parkway Parade, Isetan Tampines, Isetan Scotts, ishopchangi.com and Beautique by ishopchangi at Jewel Changi Airport.
