What’s your favourite skincare ingredient? There’s good ol’ hyaluronic acid, which helps to increase hydration in the skin to keep it looking fresh and full. Let’s not forget about niacinamide too, with its soothing, moisturising and exfoliating benefits.
As for myself, I’m a fan of vitamin C as it’s designed to brighten and even out the skin tone while protecting it against UV damage and other harmful external aggressors. With this, I knew I had to give Caudalie’s newly reinvented Vinoperfect Radiance Serum Complexion Correcting a go. Here’s why.
First impressions, claims and packaging
Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum.
Touted by the brand as the “number one anti-dark spot” product in pharmacies in Europe, the serum aims to correct the appearance of existing dark spots and even out complexion to help the skin look brighter and more radiant.
What makes this serum stand out from other brightening products in the market lies in its formula, which stars Viniferine (also known as palmitoyl grapevine shoot extract) — an ingredient patented by the French skincare brand that’s derived from vine sap and is said to be 62 times more effective than vitamin C. How so? Well, the brand found through in-vitro testing that Vinerifine was more successful at inhibiting the production of tyrosinase (also known as melanin) than vitamin C.
Apart from this, the serum contains other noteworthy ingredients too, such as olive squalane, which helps to moisturise the skin and bisabolol, a skin-soothing agent that’s typically extracted from chamomile.
The serum bottle is made of recycled glass and plastic, apart from its pump dispenser.

Usage and application
The serum boasts a milk-like texture and has a fresh, citrusy scent.
Despite its impressive ingredients, I had initial reservations about the serum as it contains parfum (fragrance). I have very sensitive skin and in the past, it’s reacted pretty badly to products that contain alcohol or fragrance. To this, Caudalie founder Mathilde Thomas clarified on Instagram that some of their products contain fragrances, however, they ensure that they’re kept below 0.5% and are free of endocrine disruptors such as phthalates, which can potentially cause unwanted changes to a person’s hormones.
As an added precaution, I conducted two rounds of patch testing: once on the underside of my jaw and another on the inside of my elbow to ensure that the product would sit well with my skin. Luckily, all was safe and well, hence I was able to incorporate it into my skincare routine.
I’ve been applying three to four drops of the serum daily in the morning and evening after cleansing my skin for around two weeks now. I’m also pretty fond of its fresh, citrusy scent and milk-like texture, though I must say that the serum tends to feel slightly tacky at the start before it gets absorbed into my skin.
Final thoughts
I intend to use this for a few more months to better observe its skin-brightening benefits.
To be honest, I don’t have many dark spots or acne scars on my face, hence I didn’t pay particular attention to the serum’s effectiveness in combatting this specific skin issue. Instead, I’m hoping that with consistent use, it will help me to achieve a brighter and more radiant-looking complexion. I’ve noticed my skin looking a little more radiant than before and its citrusy scent never fails to perk me up.
The brand has also stated the mileage that users will receive from using this serum will vary depending on their skin type and other factors, hence I can’t ascertain their “speed” and ability in improving the skin’s condition. That said, I’d still recommend this product to those who are often out in the sun and/or have reached their late thirties, given how age spots are likely to form due to ageing and frequent sun exposure. If anything, it’s never too early to start on your anti-ageing routine as prevention’s always better than cure.
