It's just been a few months since Netflix released the second season of The Witcher but many fans are already hungry for more. Well, here's great news: the cast and crew are already back in production. The streaming giant dropped a teaser showing stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra sitting together on a snowy set. Could this mean that The Witcher season three release date will be sooner than expected?
What is the plot of The Witcher season three?
Along with the teaser photo, the official Twitter account of The Witcher also shared a snippet of what fans can expect to happen in the third season.
The plot describes how Ciri of Centra has gone into further hiding, along with Geralt and Yennefer, after discovering the extent of her powers and that she has the ability to open portals and release monsters. The trio goes to the protected fortress of Aretuza to regroup and train Ciri to harness her supernatural abilities but instead finds themselves embroiled in mind games, political manoeuvring and betrayals.
The Witcher storyline and characters
The Witcher follows three main characters: Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) who is a monster hunter; Crown Princess Ciri of Cintra, an exiled princess who's been on the run after the downfall of her kingdom (Freya Allan) and Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful part-elf sorceress who fell in love with Geralt (Anya Chalotra).
The three crossed paths and eventually Geralt and Yennefer became the protectors and carers of Ciri, as the Crown Princess tries to evade malevolent forces who wish to use her growing powers for evil.
The Polish-American fantasy drama is created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich based on the works of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
