'Crazy Rich Asians' Sequel Resumes Production, Here’s What’s New

A new screenwriter is now in the picture

After halting production in 2019, the Crazy Rich Asians 2 cast and crew are back in production and are reportedly set to shoot in Singapore. The project was put on hold after its former screenwriter Adele Lim, who went on to write the screenplay for Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, quit due to pay disparity issues with co-writer Peter Chiarelli.

Adele Lim shares why she’s not returning for “Crazy Rich Asians 2” in an interview.

Three years after the controversy, Warner Bros. has signed film director Amy Wang, who won a 2018 Cannes Lion award for Unnatural, a short film she co-wrote and directed.

Crazy Rich Asians 2 cast

In contrast to the troubles behind the camera, Crazy Rich Asians lead cast members Henry Golding and Constance Wu are set to play Nick Young and Rachel Chu once again. Other members of the cast, including Awkwafina and Gemma Chan, have yet to confirm their involvement in Crazy Rich Asians 2.

However, since the sequel’s source material, which is Kevin Kwan’s China Rich Girlfriend, largely retains the same cast of characters there’s a good chance most of the actors from the first film will return.

Crazy Rich Asians 2 plot

The sequel may revolve around Rachel Chu’s discovery of her father’s real identity and her relationship with a half-brother she just met. New characters may also be introduced, including the ultra-glamorous heiress and social media influencer Colette Bing and her loyal assistant Roxanne Ma, who was Colette’s 18th birthday present.

This article will be updated with the trailer, confirmed cast, official plot and release date of Crazy Rich Asians 2 in Singapore as more information becomes available.
