Let’s go, Wildcats!

High School Musical 4 is here! Or… as close to it as it can get. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (HSMTMTS) Season 4 is bringing us back to our childhoods and the familiar walls of East High. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming final season.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 4 plot and cast

The fourth season sees the whole East High School drama club discovering that the High School Musical 4: The Reunion movie will be filmed in their school. To make it even better, they’re going to be movie extras! But some complications arise when the movie filming starts taking up every drama kid’s time, leaving their pre-scheduled annual show lacking in cast and crew.

Confused? If you haven’t caught up on previous seasons, HSMTMTS is set in a reality where the original Disney movie franchise is merely that — a movie. East High School’s drama club recreated the first instalment of the franchise in an on-stage performance, which has relatable themes for the high schoolers. Seasons 2 and 3 saw the musical adaptations of Beauty and the Beast and Frozen, respectively.

The show’s original cast members will be reprising their roles. Joshua Bassett will be back to step into the shoes of Ricky Bowen, the guitar-playing skateboarder who reluctantly took on the role of Troy Bolton. Sofia Wylie returns as Gina Porter, a theatre enthusiast who was cast as Taylor McKessie in the first season.

Olivia Rodrigo will not be reprising her role as Nini, since the season 3 finale saw her character moving on from East High and eagerly pursuing her dream musical career.

Some members of the original High School Musical cast have made cameos and guest appearances in the past seasons, but this time, they’re expected to have a bigger presence. Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans), Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie), and Kaycee Stroh (Kaycee) are all confirmed to be on the show. Zac Efron (Troy Bolton) and Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez) have not been confirmed to be appearing for the series finale — but we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
