Family by Choice cast and plot

This highly-anticipated, coming-of-age K-drama follows the story of three childhood friends, Kim Sanha (played by Hwang In Yeop), Yoon Joo Won (played by Jung Chaeyeon), and Kang Hae Joon (by Bae Hyun Sung), who grew up together as siblings but are not related by blood.

The drama’s compelling storyline will revolve around the ups and downs that they face during their teenage lives. While the three rely on each other, they find themselves parting ways; only to reunite after 10 years. This series will also highlight the beautiful bonds formed between the three characters as they strive to defy life setbacks and break traditional family stigmas.

Hwang In Yeop’s character Kim Sanha is a model high school student who exudes a mysterious aura. We will see the actor take on a high school role yet again just like in True Beauty. However, the role promises to present him as a more mature and complex character.

Meanwhile, former I.O.I member Jung Chae Yeon will play the role of an optimistic teenager Yoon Joo Won who is expected to be Kim Sanha’s love interest. The third lead, Bae Hyun Sung (Love Playlist) will portray Kang Hae Joon, a charming teenager with a strong personality. Will we expect to see a love triangle between these three?

Before Family by Choice, the popular original Chinese drama Go Ahead paved the way for this Korean remake. Written in the same plot, this C-drama also stars prominent C-actors like Tang Songyun, Song Weilong, and Steven Zhang. While waiting for the K-remake, you can watch this series first on Netflix and Viu. The series aired in 2020 and has 40 episodes.
