R&B singer H.E.R. is set to take on the role of Belle in an upcoming Beauty and the Beast 30th anniversary special slated for the last month of 2022!
It’s not the first time that the 25-year-old musician has been tapped for an acting gig. H.E.R., who is also known as Gabi Wilson, will also star in the musical adaptation of The Color Purple. The Slow Down singer is reportedly excited for both roles. H.E.R. shared in an interview that “she can’t believe” that she’ll be part of the fairytale’s legacy.
H.E.R. For Beauty and the Beast Special: What To Expect
The upcoming show will feature both live-action and animated segments. We can also look forward to “live never-before-seen musical performances” and fresh sets and costumes that are inspired by the original Beauty and the Beast film. This may mean that H.E.R. will not necessarily don the traditional yellow-gold dress but will instead have a tweaked version. We can’t wait to see that!
Director Jon M. Chu, who is known for his work in Crazy Rich Asians, will direct the special.

Joining H.E.R. is Grammy winner Josh Groban as the Beast, Joshua Henry as Gaston, Rita Moreno as the narrator, and David Alan Grier as Cogsworth. Martin Short and Shania Twain are also in the talks to join the cast as Lumiere and Mrs. Potts respectively.

The Beauty and the Beast special will be released on ABC on 15 December. However, the show will be available for streaming on Disney+ the following day.
