Book your calendars for a hot pink getaway

This story was first published on 23 December 2022.

Get ready for a dreamy, sparkly pink world because the highly-anticipated Barbie movie has just released its latest trailer and new meme-worthy posters.

The live-action film stars Margot Robbie (known for Suicide Squad, I, Tonya, and more). It’s directed by Greta Gerwig (who also directed Lady Bird and Little Women).

Barbie trailer, cast, and plot

Welcome to the Barbie multiverse. In the latest trailer and set of posters, Margot Robbie is joined by a ton of accomplished Barbies as well as multiple Kens who do not seem to have anything much to offer to the table. There's a Barbie who's a president (Issa Rae), a Nobel Prize winner (Emma Mackey), a celebrated author (Alexandra Shipp), a Supreme Court Justice (Ana Cruz Kayne), a fantastic mermaid (Dua Lipa), and more. You name it — Barbie's probably done it.

Meanwhile, the Kens are simply Kens played by Ryan Gosling, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans.

Aside from Barbies and Kens, the movie seems to be headed off into the "real world" with America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, and Will Ferrell as the human characters. Many details about the plot are still under wraps, so stay tuned.

Barbie first teaser

The first teaser for the upcoming movie opens with a parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Young girls play with their baby dolls in the desert, but when a huge Barbie doll drops from the sky, the girls smash their old dolls on the ground.

Margot Robbie dons the iconic one-piece striped bathing suit, which was worn by the doll when it first came out in 1959. The teaser also gives us snippets of Barbie’s fun pink dream world.

Barbie release date

Barbie is scheduled to be released on 21 July 2023 in the US and 20 July 2023 in Singapore.
