Struggling with hair loss? You’re not alone. We’ve got your back with these three practical tips to help you on your hair care journey.
Hair loss: Symptoms and Causes
Before we dive in, here’s what you need to know about hair loss. Losing about 100 strands of hair daily is normal for the average adult. Beyond that, if you’re seeing thinning hair or experiencing a patchy loss of hair on your scalp that could look pretty bad for your image, then it’s time to pay attention to your scalp.
Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors such as your genetics, hormonal imbalances, or the use of certain medications as well as lifestyle (late nights, smoking, and unbalanced sleep).
For the most common type of hair loss AKA non-scarring alopecia, this can be self-treated. We cannot assume that all kinds of hair loss can be treated on your own, so it’s best to consult your doctor if you’re seeing more unusual symptoms like a painful scalp or widespread loss of body hair.
Ready to stop your hair fall from worsening? Let’s check out these three tips.
3 key tips to combat hair loss
1. Keep your stress levels in check
Feeling overwhelmed with everything going on in your life? Take a deep breath and carve out some time to care for your mind. Before you can start managing your hair loss, you might want to consider prioritising your stress levels first. Studies show that reduced stress can boost hair growth and prevent shedding.
Here are some easy ways to de-stress: Go for a walk with nature, explore yoga classes, or take up a creative outlet such as painting or writing. When you prioritise your mental well-being, your weary body and mind (and your hair, of course) will thank you for it.
2. Maintain a healthy diet
A healthy diet = healthy hair. Sticking to a nutritious diet might seem easier said than done, but just take it one step at a time. Let go of sugary drinks and gradually incorporate hair-loving foods rich in iron, vitamin C, and zinc into your current snacks and meals.
For iron-rich foods, look for beans, spinach, and leafy greens for strong hair follicles. Vitamin C will go hand-in-hand with these to help your body absorb iron and promote healthy skin and healthy hair. Go for juicy smoothies, sweet potatoes, mangoes, and other citrus fruits. Meanwhile, zinc found in seafood and nuts helps regulate keratin, the protein needed for the foundation of hair strands.

#TBLBureau Campaigns Executive Lizanne tried the treatment session to see if it could help her hair loss and sensitive scalp issues (these happened when she was 25 years old, which was just over a year ago).
What to expect from the Scalp Purifying Treatment
Step 1: Analysis and Cleansing. The consultant started with a thorough Hair & Scalp Scan Analysis. It confirmed that Lizanne had a sensitive scalp and revealed that she had clogged hair follicles too.
She shared, “They assessed my scalp as very sensitive because the skin was thin, as indicated by the red patches in my scalp. The specialist explained that this is why my scalp is sensitive to certain hair products and why it can sometimes react negatively (like itching on the scalp) to new products. Having a sensitive and itchy scalp can also cause my hair follicles to produce much more oil and dead skin cells, possibly leading to clogged hair follicles that develop into bumps or pimples.”
Based on the analysis, Lizanne needed a treatment that focused on detox and cleansing to reduce inflammation and restore her scalp.
Step 2: Herbal Scalp Masque. The specialist parted Lizanne’s hair into small sections to apply the masque gently with a brush. She also gave a relaxing aromatherapy scalp massage to work the product in and truly let her scalp absorb the full nutrients from the masque. Lizanne could feel it getting more minty and cooling as time went by (the masque was placed on her scalp for 15 minutes).
The specialist then shampooed Lizanne’s scalp twice and gave her another 8-step aromatherapy scalp massage. Afterwards, she placed hot packs on Lizanne’s shoulders and gave her a shoulder massage. Lizanne shared, “I was pleasantly surprised by this step since I was not expecting it, but it elevated the entire experience!”
Step 3: Customised Treatment Essence. After a thorough wash, the specialist sprayed an essence formulated to strengthen hair growth and packed with nutrients — customised to Lizanne’s scalp needs. Her hair was parted carefully and massaged, before her scalp was sprayed with the hair mist. Before blow-drying her hair, the specialist also thoughtfully asked Lizanne for her preferred hairstyle.
Step 4: Photodynamic Therapy. After going through the nitty gritty steps, the specialist brought in a device which emits infrared laser light to promote blood circulation and anti-inflammation as well as accelerate healing in the scalp.
Step 5: Post-treatment Scalp Scan Analysis. The consultant scanned over the same areas that were analysed before the treatment to show the difference in Lizanne’s scalp condition. Lizanne said, “My scalp was less red and my hair follicles were visibly less clogged.”
Aftermath of the Treatment
Although this one-time treatment proved to be effective, the consultant recommended continuing with follow-up treatments to be able to see lasting effects in improving overall scalp health. Based on each individual’s scalp condition, the specialists will continue to make recommendations on the best treatment focus as well as the frequency of sessions.
All in all, Lizanne felt that the session was worth her time (2.5 hours of full treatment) and was very reasonably priced. One of the moments she enjoyed the most was the masque step as it was refreshing for her scalp. She also felt that the specialist was very meticulous in each step of the treatment which made her feel she was in good hands.
Most of all, the results became a good stepping stone to better hair and scalp care for her. “I would recommend this treatment to friends or family who are currently facing scalp or hair issues. The good thing is it is customised and that’s a good first step to administering the right solution to treat scalp issues that we wouldn’t even know we are facing,” she added.
