Have you heard? American science fiction drama television series Stranger Things is set to premiere its fourth season on Netflix on 27 May! The Duffer Brothers, who are the creators of the series, revealed the exciting announcement in an open letter to fans. They also confirmed that season five will be their last.
Season 4 will premiere in two ‘volumes’
Volume 1 will premiere on 27 May, while Volume 2 will premiere on 1 July. This is due to the “unprecedented length” of the series. The Duffer Brothers also mentioned that the series’ fourth season was the “most challenging season yet” but also the “most rewarding one.”
Season 4 plot
The fourth season will depict how the group of friends are struggling with the aftermath of the Battle of Starcourt, six months after the incident brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Separated for the first time, the group also has to learn to navigate the complexities of high school.
They will also face a new and horrifying supernatural threat, which will present a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of Upside Down.
Season 5 + potential ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off?
Netflix has yet to reveal any additional details about the plot for season five, apart from it being the last season. That said, we won’t be surprised if there were spin-offs in the near future that will let fans deeper into the world of Stranger Things.
After all, the Duffer Brothers also mentioned in their open letter that there are “still many more exciting stores to tell”, including “new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes”, but till then, they wish to “finish” the current story, which focuses on “Eleven and her brave friends.”
About 'Stranger Things'
Stranger Things is a “nostalgic nod to ‘80s sci-fi and horror classics.” It follows the story of a young boy’s mysterious disappearance. His mother, a police chief and the boy’s friends attempt to search for him and are confronted with terrifying supernatural forces along the way.
The series stars British actress Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven; she was only 12 years old when the series premiered its first season in 2016. (She recently turned 18 on 19 February!) It also stars Finn Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Gaten Matazzaro and Caleb McLaughlin.
