The BinJin Couple’s Baby Has Arrived

It seems like the whole world is abuzz with excitement as K-drama superstars Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin welcome their first child. 

While the baby was supposed to be due in December, Son Ye-Jin’s agency confirmed that the mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy yesterday, 27 November. 

The Crash Landing On You (CLOY) stars tied the knot back on 31 March and had an intimate wedding ceremony with several South Korean celebrities in attendance such as Ha Ji Won, Jung Hae In, and Gong Hyo Jin.

Son Ye-Jin and Hyun Bin announced their engagement back in February. Ye-Jin shared the news through her official Instagram account, saying that she “finally found someone to spend the rest of [her] life with.”

Meanwhile, Hyun Bin’s agency posted a handwritten note from the actor, which said that Ye-Jin “always makes him smile” and that they promise to “walk together through the coming days.”


Before the engagement was announced last night, the trailer for Son Ye-Jin’s new tVN show Yoo Quiz On The Block was released on 9 February. In the short preview, she said that her ‘current love’ is her ‘first love’.

The couple’s celebrity friends including Song-Yoon Ah (Secret Garden), Lee Jung-Hyun (Peninsula), Oh Yoon-Ah (While You Were Sleeping), and Lee Min-Jung (Once Again) expressed their best wishes to the couple in the comments section of Son Ye-Jin's post.

In 2011, Son Ye-Jin made a cameo in Hyun Bin’s drama Secret Garden, but the two never met on set. Their first recorded encounter was in Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) where they sat next to each other and shared the stage when they were awarded the Producer’s Choice Award. In 2017, it was announced that they would co-star in the film The Negotiation. However, the two only shared one major scene together despite being the movie’s main leads (no spoilers why in case you haven’t seen it yet!).


They only got to know each other better during the filming of 2019’s Crash Landing On You where they played the reserved North Korean Captain Ri Jyeong-Hyeok and the feisty businesswoman Yoon Se-Ri. After the drama aired, speculation about them dating kept surfacing. They confirmed the relationship on 1 January 2021. The statement from Hyun Bin’s agency said that the two’s ‘positive feelings towards one another developed into a romantic relationship’ after working together on several projects.

Hyun Bin directly referenced his and Ye-Jin’s characters Captain Ri and Se-ri in his announcement. But we can’t help but relate some of their engagement statements to scenes in the drama too.

First, there’s Ye-Jin’s line about ‘boy meets girl’ which is often used to describe a meet-cute. If you don’t recall, it was later revealed in CLOY’s plot that Se-ri and Captain Ri’s first meeting wasn’t actually in North Korea but in Switzerland years prior. It mirrors Ye-Jin and Hyun Bin’s many chance encounters before working together in the drama.

When Ye-Jin said “recognises each other in a crowd,” we’re sure we’re not the only ones who remembered that scene where Captain Ri found Se-ri amid the chaotic marketplace crowd in CLOY’s fourth episode.


And of course, when Hyun Bin said that Ye-Jin always makes him smile, it definitely reminded us of the countless moments where Se-ri was the only one who can make the stoic Captain Ri’s face light up (and even make him act silly!).
