Megan Fox’s return to the headlines has got some confused. Is she, as one Twitter user put it, in “movies and stuff”? Yes, in fact. But that’s not the sole reason why she’s back on everyone’s radar. The 35-year-old actress has been making waves recently for a variety of reasons, from appearances to high-profile events to a resurfaced interview from the ‘00s that started a conversation about how she was treated as a young actress. Megan Fox is back in the spotlight — and we’re here for it.
A stunner at the VMAs and Met Gala
Megan Fox came prepared for the red carpet. At the VMAs, she stunned with a “naked dress” — a moniker that’s bestowed upon revealing, sheer ensembles (see: Rihanna’s iconic Swarovski number at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards). The empire-waist slip piece is by Mugler and features a boned breastpiece and a sheer skin-clinging skirt draped with intricate silver details that are reminiscent of flowing water. The look was completed with an eye-catching bejewelled thong, a wet look hairstyle and fresh just-got-out-of-the-shower makeup. Talk about a stunning look!
The next day, Megan wowed the crowd once again when she showed up at the Met Gala 2021. It marks her first appearance at the ball, and she didn’t disappoint the fashion crowd. She sported an elegant backless Dundas gown with hand-sewn beaded detailing and a high slit. What seals the deal is her super fierce beauty look that features blunt bangs, a long braided hairdo and bold, red lips. We’re not sure how this fits the American fashion theme, but it’s nonetheless stunning.
These back-to-back looks surely got everyone talking and some even commented that this new era for Megan is “pure fire”. We can’t argue with that.

You may be wondering what this “new era Megan Fox” people are talking about is. Let us explain.
Before she hit headlines for serving gorgeous looks at the VMAs and Met Gala, she had a brief but major return to the public consciousness. The event even opened up a discussion about the way she and other female celebrities were treated in the ‘00s. It all started when a 2009 clip from her guesting stint at the talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! resurfaced.
More than a decade ago, Megan Fox appeared on the show and talked about how she was cast as an extra in a Bad Boys II club scene when she was 15. During the interview, she recounted how the ‘solution’ director Michael Bay thought of for her not being able to drink in a scene because she was underage was making her dance in a bikini under a waterfall instead. The reaction to this icky story? A laughing audience and a joke from Jimmy. This sparked a conversation and made many reexamine how Megan Fox was “failed” by the industry.
Commentary Youtube channel ModernGurlz pointed out how Megan Fox was both sexualised and shamed by the media in the noughties. Everything became worse for her when she shared how it was a “nightmare” when Michael Bay is in “director mode” and even compared him to Hitler. Yikes! What ensued next was a barrage of bad press that called her names.
Her character, Mikaela Banes, was later cut off from the Transformers franchise. From then on, she landed few notable roles apart from a short stint in New Girl and the critically panned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

If there’s one thing that perfectly encapsulates the shift in how Megan Fox is viewed by the public, it’s the reception to Jennifer’s Body. The film directed by Diablo Cody got bad reviews when it was released but is now considered an underrated cult classic that was a victim of mismatched marketing. How so? Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried’s make-out scenes were heavily promoted, making it look like a racey picture. However, it’s actually a coming-of-age film about toxic friendships and trauma. Megan’s performance in the film was criticised as lacking, but now, a decade later, people are eager to see her onscreen again.
Latest movies and upcoming projects
Megan Fox has begun taking lead roles once again. Just recently, she starred in the thriller Till Death in which she played Emma, a woman who’s trying to evade strange men who seem like they are determined to kill her. Her performance received generally good reviews and critics online marked this as a “welcome return” for her.
Aside from that, she has a few more upcoming projects. One of which is another thriller film, titled Night Teeth, which is scheduled to be released on Netflix in October.
