'Fantastic Beasts 3' Is Coming! What We Know So Far

ICYMI, the Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer just dropped — and we're in for a ride. Titled Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, the third instalment in the movie franchise takes us to the beginnings of a Wizarding War where the magical world's secrecy is threatened. We also see new additions to the cast and get the movie’s release date. More on that ahead.

Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer spoilers ahead

The official trailer shows the Wizarding World's secrecy on the brink of collapse. Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is called by Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to lead a ragtag team of wizards, witches, and a Muggle (non-magical individual) to stave off Gellert Grindelwald's (Mads Mikkelsen) followers who are threatening to reveal the Wizarding World to the non-magical population. 

Interestingly enough, Dumbledore is clearly depicted to be on the sidelines of the war. For fans of the Harry Potter franchise, you'd know that this will change as Dumbledore's battle with Grindelwald is what earned him more notoriety as a wizard. The movie will clearly explore his reasons for doing so, in addition to introducing new magical beasts we haven't seen before.

Perhaps the biggest reveal in the trailer is the new Gellert Grindelwald. ICYDK, Grindelwald has been played by two other actors since the Fantastic Beasts series aired in 2016. Collin Farrell played the series' main baddie-in-disguise in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Johnny Depp stepped into the role of the dark wizard as he started his campaign against the Wizarding World. But due to Depp's personal troubles, Warner Bros decided to recast for the role and chose Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (known for his role as Hannibal Lecter in the series Hannibal).

So... when is the movie coming out?

After experiencing several issues in the movie's filming schedule due to the pandemic, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Albus Dumbledore will officially premiere internationally on 7 April 2022 in theaters. 

While we have to wait a bit longer before it arrives, that just gives us more time to binge-watch the two previous Fantastic Beasts movies as well as the rest of the Harry Potter franchise. Movie marathon? Sign us up.
