This Is Not Your Average Christmas Playlist

A different kind of Christmas tunes

With Christmas just days away, you may be looking for some tunes to amplify the holiday spirit. While we love the quintessential Christmas playlists featuring the King and Queen of Christmas a.k.a. Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey, it can get a little repetitive. So we've rounded up some not-so-average holiday tunes to add to your Christmas 2021 playlist.

Butter (Holiday Remix) by BTS

The 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs) Favourite Pop Song and hit summer bop gets a special remix for Christmas. BTS first performed the remix at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2021 on 3 December, to the delight of their fans, as the pop song was transformed into a seasonal bop with the addition of sleigh bells, jazz-y trumpets and a more playful beat.

Play it when: you're decorating your space and transforming it into a Christmas haven.

let it snow by Shoffy

Another new release to add to your Christmas 2021 playlist is this cover of the classic holiday tune by LA-based singer-songwriter Shoffy (whose real name is Alex Shofler). Though Shoffy is more known for his electro-RnB tunes, he opted for a more relaxed acoustic arrangement to give this song a soulful flavour for the upcoming holidays.

Play it when: you're winding down from your holiday get-togethers with loved ones.

Santa Can't You Hear Me by Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande

ICYMI, Ariana Grande dropped by The Kelly Clarkson Show for its holiday special this year. With two talented singers, Ari and Kelly had a music showcase where they made the live debut of "Santa Can't Your Hear Me", their duet that is featured in Kelly's new Christmas album. The song features a lively, upbeat melody that will get your spirits up — perfect for capturing the Christmas cheer.

Play it when: you're cooking your Christmas feast! Good food and mood will abound with this song playing in the background.

Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande

Ari seems to be heading for Mariah's crown since this tune has quickly become a staple hit during the Christmas season. Balancing the whimsical aspect of the holidays with catchy pop melodies and Ari's strong pipes, this is a song you could listen to over and over without getting sick of it.

Play it when: you're wrapping last-minute presents! It will make time go faster as you sing along.

I Am the Grinch by Tyler, The Creator feat. Fletcher Jones

Perhaps one of the most iconic figures of the Christmas season aside from Jesus and Santa, the Grinch is given new life through Tyler, The Creator's song. Featured in the 2018 remake of the Christmas classic film, this track gives insight into The Grinch’s beliefs against Christmas with a very modern twist.

Play it when: you want a change from the sweet and sappy holiday songs.

Merry & Happy by TWICE

For K-pop fans, here's another Christmas song that will fit your music tastes. Uplift your spirits by listening to TWICE's song Merry & Happy from their 2017 holiday album of the same name. The upbeat and whimsical song shares the singer's musings about how Christmas becomes more magical when you're spending it with the one you love.

Play it when: you're getting ready for the day to set you in a good mood and leave you with a smile on your face.

Naughty List by Liam Payne and Dixie D’Amelio

Another entry into Christmas playlists everywhere, former One Direction member Liam Payne teamed up with TikTok star Dixie D'Amelio for this cheeky track. This mischievous track is all about getting swept away by the holiday festivities and landing on Santa's naughty list.

Play it when: you're just chilling in your room after indulging in yummy Christmas meals.

We All Need Christmas by Def Leppard

This year was a whirlwind and while it may leave you feeling un-Christmas-y, let Def Leppard remind you why the holiday season should still be celebrated in this rock ballad. With poignant opening lines of "Let's raise a glass to all that's past, and to the future long may it last," you’re in for a ride on the feels train.

Play it when: you're in the mood for something more mellow but still meaningful.
