2020 Grammys Performers We're Excited To Watch

BTS, Lizzo, and more

The beginning of the year is, as always, awards season. Annually, we anticipate the names and titles that shaped the past year's entertainment industry. The visual art of film enjoys their spotlight with  award ceremonies like the recent Golden Globes, as well as the upcoming Oscars this February. Meanwhile, music's biggest night comes with the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards this 26 January amidst behind-the-scenes conflict concerning the ousting of the first-ever female President and CEO Deborah Dugan. Though it's not happening until a few days later (it broadcasts on Monday, 27 January on our side of the globe), we can't help but be excited to see how the most memorable music personalities battle it out for the best. And not only that — we're also looking forward to watching these spectacular performers on the 2020 Grammys stage.

BTS

This year, fans and other artists alike we’re shocked with BTS not receiving a single nomination for Map of the Soul: Persona, despite the album receiving critical success worldwide. It was a sad news for ARMYs, but their spirits were quickly lift up thanks to Ariana Grande, who, after tweeting a photo with the BTS members (minus Suga), sparked speculation that they will be performing at the 2020 Grammys. And so it was: earlier today, the boys themselves confirmed their performance with a tweet. If you can recall, last year, the K-Pop group were presenters in the ceremony. But this year, the boys will finally be able to realise their dream of performing their hits on Grammy stage. So here’s wishing they also get to grab the win they deserve next year too.

Jonas Brothers

Speaking of pop groups, the Jonas Brothers, a.k.a. the heart of the 2000s boyband fever in the West, will also be 2020 Grammys performers. The brothers, who made a massive comeback last year, visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show to drop hints about their upcoming performance in the ceremony. Apparently, there’s going to be an epic surprise in store for us. The youngest of the three, Nick, teases, “we’re doing something else which I don’t think anyone’s going to expect.” They’re expected to perform their recently-released “What a Man Gotta Do”, so should we expect their wives show up on the stage too? Most importantly, will they win their first Gramophone for their pop hit “Sucker”? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Lizzo

But enough about boys. This 2020 Grammys, we’re set to see powerful female performances as well. For one, everyone’s excited about Lizzo, who bagged more nominations than anyone — a total of eight, four of which are major awards. The unapologetic body positivity icon ruled 2019, and we can’t wait to see how she’ll grace this year starting with her first-ever performance on the awards show.

Billie Eilish

Next Monday, get ready for an impossibly chill performance courtesy of “Bad Guy” singer, Billie Eilish. Earlier this month, the breakout star set to tour in Asia soon, also announced that she’s also performing at the 2020 Grammys. Nominated for six categories, the alternative pop artist is the youngest ever to be nominated in the four major ones, battling it out with Lizzo for the Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Ariana Grande

Lastly, Ariana Grande fans are in for a sweet treat. The singer, with five nominations this year, is returning to the Record Academy stage to perform her biggest hits. It’s a huge delight, as, last year, Ariana Grande backed out on the show last minute as they didn't allow her to perform "7 Rings," which is now ironically in line for the 2020 Record of the Year Award. So yup, in her words, it’s "Thank U, Next," indeed.
