I’m calling it: The latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has shaken the foundations of my iPhone loyalty. This little powerhouse claims to be a fun-sized computer that fits in your pocket – and rightfully so. Its plethora of features might just make me switch sides.

It’s slim, light, and fits nicely in my pocket.
I’m not one for bulging pockets, but if I were, the Fold6 would be the exception. Despite its large, foldable screen, the Fold6 is surprisingly compact. Compared to my iPhone 12 Pro Max, which measures 161 x 78 x 7MM, the Fold6 is noticeably smaller at 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.1MM (folded). While it’s slightly heavier at 239G (the iPhone weighs 228G), the added weight is well worth it for the versatility it offers.
Now, the large, foldable screen – love! It provides ample space for its multitasking feature, whether you’re working on multiple tasks or indulging in a little guilty pleasure like drafting an email while catching up on the latest episode of Emily in Paris (Team Marcello, anyone?). But hey, work-life balance, right?
While I have my doubts about foldable technology, the upgraded FlexHinge provides added confidence in its durability and reliability. Also, it’s the Fold6’s sleek design and compact size that have won me over. I appreciate the flexibility of using either the cover screen or the main screen. The cover screen allows me to access everything without having to unfold the phone. The main screen, on the other hand, offers a more immersive experience. It’s a win-win.
It’s my personal assistant.
Are we all using AI yet? Once a skeptic, I now see the productivity value of human-AI collaboration. The Fold6 is a prime example, with AI-powered features throughout many applications. Photo Assist, for instance, uses AI to fill backgrounds and move, resize or erase objects. For on-the-go translation, there is Interpreter, which offers offline conversation translation, and Live Translate, which facilitates seamless calls across time zones – great features for frequent travellers or those working remotely.
Notes Assist is a standout on the productivity front. Its new transcript function allows me to quickly transcribe interviews or workshop recordings and organise my notes. While the transcription is helpful for shorter sound bites, I find it most effective when used in conjunction with manual note-taking. After taking notes, the Auto Format and Correct Spelling feature help me clean up my notes, and the Summarise feature provides a valuable overview. These are features I didn’t know I needed until I tried it.
Are you perhaps, like me, drafting messages in your notes before putting them in e-mail? Composer is here to help. Choose your format (Standard, Email, Social Media, or Comment) and tone (Professional, Causal or Polite), and let AI compose your message for you. So next time you want to send an angry email but need to keep it professional on the fly, you can rely on Composer to help you craft a calm and collected message.
FYI, the Fold6’s AI assistant is Google Gemini, my go-to AI tool over ChatGPT. Another feature to look out for is Circle to Search, a collaboration with Google, which allows you to circle, highlight or tap anywhere on the screen to select the text, image or video you want to search for discovery.
It is a well-rounded foldable.
Whether you’re bossing hard, playing harder, or doing a bit of both, the Fold6 is a well-rounded foldable that caters to a variety of lifestyles.
Powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the Fold6 boasts a high-performance processor that ensures smooth gameplay and seamless multitasking. Now, I don’t game, but hearsay the device also features Vulkan API, a new AP, and a 3 Step Vision Booster for enhanced visuals and extended gaming sessions.
While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged from its predecessor and is not the best Samsung has to offer (like the S24 Ultra), the Fold6 benefits from a new sensor on the 12MP ultra-wide camera that captures more light. The upgraded ProVisual Engine also delivers stunning photo quality with Samsung’s well-known vibrant colours and crispness. It may not be for everyone, but I like it.
With such a wide range of impressive features, it’s natural to wonder why Apple has been relatively conservative in adopting multitasking or AI-powered features compared to Samsung. Will their focus on simplicity or a closed app ecosystem hinder their ability to meet the evolving needs of users? Maybe. Maybe not. Only time will tell.
If you’re looking for a powerful smartphone that gives you productivity and some fun on the go – with a truckload of AI features to boot – the Fold6 could be the one for you. It’s even made me question my allegiance as an iPhone user… or perhaps I’m just starting to fold.
