Confidence. Such a simple word, but what a challenging mental state of
being. Whether we admit it or not, a lack of confidence can be one of the most
disruptive aspects of our life. While being confident may not come easy, that
does not mean you can’t seize the day with a flawless game face on.
Wearing confidence 24/7
Have you ever wondered how personalities from different walks of life overcome moments when they feel less than confident to be and look their best? Earlier this month at the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Playroom, we sat down with four Estée Lauder Singapore muses — Nadiah M.Din, Sonia Chew, Xixi Lim and Eswari Gunasagar — for an up-close and personal conversation on confidence.
Plus, discover how their Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup propels themselves to wear their confidence 24/7.
"Spend some time for yourself and don’t neglect yourself."
“I felt the ugliest after I gave birth to my children. You still have that postpregnancy tummy, and you still feel that you’re not your best,” shared Nadiah. “I took up a TV drama just one month after I gave birth and I felt like crap on set. When I went back home, the one who brought back my confidence was my husband. He’ll go, ‘You’re so beautiful. Look at you!’
Some women get too caught up in being a mum. Get out, do something! Do something that you love. It’s very important that, despite being a mum, you still find and spend some time for yourself so you don’t neglect yourself. The number one thing is loving myself — then I am able to love and give.
I’m a busy mum running everywhere. The fact that my Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup can stay on and last for 24 hours means you don’t have to worry about reapplying all over again. Also, sometimes, my kids run around and touch my face — and I don’t have to worry about smudges!”
“When you can’t control the situation you can still control how you react to the situation.”
“The ironic thing was I felt the least confident when I became too busy. I was losing myself in the pot. At that point, there was anxiety. Every time I had to take the stage, I did not feel confident,” shared Sonia.
“I’m in a much better place now. Headspace is so important. Surrounding myself with the right people in my life is important. When you can’t control the situation you can still control how you react to the situation. That has been the key to improving my quality of life.
“You have to understand and recognise [your own strength] before others can see it.”
“It was about two years back when I was struggling to find out who I am. I’ve always been [plus] size, but there was a period of time when I didn’t feel good about myself and didn’t have jobs coming in. It gets really scary in our industry when it’s really quiet for you,” shared Xixi.
“I relied a lot on my family and friends and that’s when they told me: “Hey, do you know you’re actually really funny?” Everyone wants to look pretty when you’re in this industry. But you have to understand and recognise [your own strength] before others can see it. That’s how I picked myself up.
I always bring my Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup out so the makeup artists can use it on me. I perspire very easily when I’m at shoots under the hot sun, and I don’t like to put on more product on my face after I perspire. So this foundation really helps a lot [because it’s long-wearing]. It’s also non-cakey, and I don’t want to look like I have a lot going on on my face.”
“As much as there was negativity, there was positivity.”
“I got my first Tamil drama on Vasantham about nine years ago,” shared Eswari. “Being in the social media era and the limelight, you subject yourself to keyboard warriors. All of a sudden, I had people saying things like, “she’s just a pretty face” or “she can’t act”. I felt that I wasn’t good enough, and that took a toll on me. I wasn’t confident. I didn’t want to go out. I didn’t want to post any pictures. I felt like if I was going to post something, people were going to comment.
But as much as there was negativity, there was positivity. And I decided to channel my energy towards the positives. For me, it’s difficult to find a shade to match my skin tone. I’m thankful that the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup has such a wide 40-shade range. One more great thing about this foundation is that the longer it stays on your face, it feels and becomes more like a second skin!”
