Queen Woo: trailer, cast, plot, and more

Queen Woo is an eight-episode historical drama (AKA saeguk) series filled with bloody scenes of war and power-hungry political figures. Featuring a star-studded cast, it is highly anticipated as it’s Jeon Jong Seo’s first foray into the saeguk genre.

Jeon Jong Seo (Money Heist: Korea, Ballerina) plays the titular character Woo Hui (also spelt Woo Hee), the queen of Goguryeo, who becomes the target of five tribes and princes after the passing of the king. She finds herself in the middle of a power struggle and aims to find a new king to fill the vacant position within 24 hours. She’s intelligent, strong, and possesses the skills of a warrior.

Ji Chang Wook (Revolver) takes on the character of the king who knows that his enemies surround him and desires to protect the queen and hold on to his authority. He’s fierce and heartless on the battlefield. Though he proves himself victorious, he meets an untimely demise when he comes back home. It’s unfortunate that his appearance in this drama is a brief one, since one of his standout roles was playing an emperor in Empress Ki opposite Ha Ji Won.

Jung Yu Mi (Rooftop Prince) portrays the role of Woo Sun, the Head of the Palace Maids. She’s the queen's elder sister and believes that the throne is rightfully hers.

Lee Soo Hyuk (Tomorrow) plays the cruel third prince Go Bal Gi who is also vying for the highest seat of power. He’s ruthless, vile, and would not let anything get in the way of his ambition.
