Review: Anothersole Travel Flats & Souffle Bag
Anothersole Travel Flats and Soufflé Bag in ‘Mint’.
The Travel Collection by Anothersole features two items: the Travel Flats and Soufflé Bag, both available in three delightful pastel shades: Mint, Ivory (pale beige), and Fog (pale grey). We received the set in the Mint hue.
Let’s start with the Travel Flats. These are made from sheepskin leather and lined with BCI-certified sustainable cotton. Short for Better Cotton Initiative, BCI is a non-profit that promotes better standards in cotton farming and practices across multiple countries. Similar to the brand’s popular Anytime Flats, the Travel Flats feature unlined leather, “flexible” rubber soles, and are “highly resistant” to abrasions.
Priced at SGD129.90, these sit in the same price range as similar styles from ALDO and Superga, though higher than offerings from Charles & Keith, DMK, and PrettyFit.
The Soufflé Bag, also made from sheepskin leather, is lined with recycled suede fabric. Measuring 24CM (width) by 17CM (height) with thin, 33CM shoulder straps, the bag contains a small magnetic closure and an inner compartment for your petite essentials. The bag is priced at SGD128.
First impressions and how we styled them
The duo’s mint hue makes it easy to match with my existing wardrobe-essentials.
Colourway: Versatile and easy to style
I’m a fan of the mint colourway — it effortlessly complements many pieces in my wardrobe. Its soft pastel tone pairs well with lighter, dreamy hues, such as a baby blue dress or a blush pink blouse. It also creates a beautiful contrast against darker staples, such as navy trousers or a charcoal blazer. I knew this duo would be on heavy rotation for me.
Travel flats: Not my usual style, but these won me over
Let me preface this by saying ballet-style flats have never been my go-to. I’ve had my fair share of blisters and sore heels from poorly constructed flats with thin soles. As a result, I typically gravitate towards heeled sandals or sneakers with thicker socks.
However, these Travel Flats convinced me to give them another chance as I noticed that ballet pumps are having their moment in the spotlight this year.
A quick note: Anothersole only offers full sizes, so you’ll need to size up or down. I wear a EUR37.5 and opted for EUR38, which was a bit roomy, but nothing a simple insole couldn’t fix. This wasn’t a dealbreaker for me as you can easily find affordable, comfortable insoles at places such as Daiso.
Comfort-wise, these flats are a pleasant surprise. While they have a pretty firm structure, the edges don’t dig into my skin and the crossover strap keeps my foot secure even when I’m walking briskly. The mini heel adds a subtle lift, which I always appreciate. That said, my cautious self tells me that I should break them in a little more before committing to longer walks.
Soufflé bag: A lush and soft mini bag that I can’t resist
The Soufflé Bag feels buttery to the touch.
Mini bags are my weakness, and the Soufflé Bag had me at first touch. It’s incredibly lightweight with a buttery-soft texture, oozing understated luxury. Its sheepskin leather ‘catch’ allows you to cinch the bag’s opening into a cute dumpling shape, or adjust the shoulder straps to wear it as a shoulder or crossbody bag.
Plus, the magnetic closure keeps your essentials secure, though keep in mind there’s no zipper.
The mini-sized Soufflé Bag weighs virtually nothing and is fun to wear.
As expected with mini bags, they’re not the most spacious, but the Soufflé Bag is perfect for the essentials. It comfortably fits my iPhone 13, cardholder, keys and makeup essentials, such as a lip gloss.
Our final verdict: A sweet treat for aspiring minimalists
Treat yourself to the Travel Flats and Soufflé Bag if you’re a fan of the 'chic and understated' aesthetic.
If you're looking to embrace a minimalist aesthetic, the Anothersole Travel Flats and Soufflé Bag are worth your coin. While we’ve already covered their price points, it’s clear that these pieces come at a higher price than fast fashion alternatives.
I’d say what sets these apart is their quality. For those who, like me, aspire to achieve that 'understated chic' aesthetic, this duo is a mini investment you’ll get plenty of wear from. Both items are free of flashy logos or patterns, allowing you to effortlessly style them to match your unique look.
Interestingly, I found myself rethinking ballet flats because of their resurgence this year. Though they’re trending now, the timeless silhouette makes them a great choice, year after year. Plus, if you’re a corporate girlie, these are perfect for casual Fridays while also being chic enough for weekend picnics and travels.
The Soufflé Bag, with its understated design, is also a stylish, ideal companion for moments when you want to travel light but still look polished and ready for any adventure.
