An elite pyjama party? We thought so too, at first. But there’s more to it than meets the eye in “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” — the theme of the Met Gala 2024. We’ve rounded up five stars who served the best looks on the carpet, plus everything you need to know about this much-awaited fashion’s biggest night of the year.

1. Zendaya
Challengers star and one of the event’s co-chairs Zendaya slayed her gothic look wearing a custom Margiela gown by John Galliano. But, that doesn’t end there, the model actress surprised viewers with her second look, channelling a black gown by John Galliano and a jaw-dropping floral couture headpiece by Philip Treacy.
2. Ariana Grande
Pop star singer Ariana Grande looked chic in her outfit, a white Loewe gown that shimmered in pastel shades of the Wicked-themed colours under the light. She also ended the night with an epic performance along with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.
3. Gigi Hadid
Model Gigi Hadid brought life to this year’s dress code with her Thom Browne white piece gown, which was carefully embroidered with over 2.8 million beads.
4. BLACKPINK’s Jennie
Asia represent! Jennie Kim once again graced the Met Gala green carpet with her stunning blue Alaïa cutout dress, paired with a sleek ponytail and pearl earrings that match the essence of the event and the elemental feel of the dress code.
5. Stray Kids
Another one for Asia. The eight-member K-pop boy group Stray Kids looked dashing in their custom Tommy Hilfiger’s classic American cool ensemble.
Met Gala 2024: theme, dress code, and hosts
Every year, the Met Gala’s red carpet event connects to a new exhibit in the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Last year, celebrities dressed in mostly black and white hues since they were inspired by the creations of the late German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. This time, the organisers have decided not to pay tribute to a single personality and instead, selected a theme that brings together ideas of renewal and rebirth.
“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” breathed new life into garments that have long been forgotten and span 400 years of history. In the exhibit, we’ve found historic dresses that are so delicate that not even a mannequin can wear them. Instead, they will be displayed in glass “coffins” (which makes us think about Disney’s Snow White). The museum will also be making use of CGI, AI, and other technologies to help more people experience the pieces in a brand-new way.

Met Gala 2024: date, location, and where to rewatch in Singapore
The prestigious fashion event took place on 7 May at 6AM SGT. Viewers can rewatch the live stream of the event’s red carpet on Vogue’s website and YouTube channel.
The exhibition will be open to the public on 10 May 2024 and will run till 2 September 2024. Located at The Met Fifth Avenue, The Tisch Galleries, Gallery 899, Floor 2.
