What are Gen Z social media users looking forward to for the coming year? No need to be left in the dark because Instagram has just released its 2023 Trend Report, which focuses on the rising trends among 1,200 people aged 16-24 in the United States.
The report was made in partnership with WGSN, a trend-forecasting company. It covers topics like fashion, beauty, and more. It also reveals that community and connection matter a lot to Gen Z users.
Highlights of Instagram’s 2023 Trend Report
Fashion: Gen Z plans to DIY their clothing and turn to thrifting
The report says that Gen Z consumers are more inclined to go for a more sustainable alternative to fast fashion. More than half of the respondents plan to DIY their clothes in 2023. And a quarter of respondents aim to cut back and turn to thrifting when an item is outside of their budget.
Activism: Gen Z will shop and use social media to support advocacies
According to the report, teens on Instagram will use platforms on Instagram to shop in support of causes and communities. Gen Z members are also hoping to engage more with creators who advocate for those with intellectual or physical disabilities. Three out of four respondents are also looking forward to following an influencer with a disability.
Beauty: Gen Z will be on the lookout for climate-proof products
Gen Z shoppers are keen on the impacts of climate change. Rising air pollution and intense UV rays are just some of the issues that are propelling searches for climate-proof products. Two out of three respondents plan to buy skincare or beauty products that protect against extreme weather and sun.
Finances: Gen Z plans to use social media to monetise their passion projects
64% of Gen Z users plan to monetise their projects this coming year. One out of four teens surveyed is also hoping to increase their financial literacy skills.
