Two Women Talk About Handling Online Negativity Through Self-Care

Filtering out the bad vibes

Let's admit it, we spend a lot of time on our phones scrolling through social media. Unfortunately, this also opens us up to online negativity from people we don't know. Encountering such comments can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and even tears because they can make you feel unconfident.

In this episode of BeauTea Talk, host Roanna and singer and beauty content creator Farhanah Khan share the self-care activities that help them handle online negativity, anxiety, stress, and tears.

1. Tap into aromatherapy

Some scents have the ability to make you feel relaxed and soothed. Lighting a scented candle can help calm your mind and emotions after encountering negative comments. Farhanah loves edible scents like vanilla and sage. Meanwhile, Roanna prefers eucalyptus and lavender as her relaxing scents.

Our picks: Farhanah currently uses the White Barn Vanilla Sage 3 Wick Candle as her go-to candle, while Roanna appreciates the affirmations that come with the Rituals The Ritual of Jing Scented Candle.

Shop the White Barn Vanilla Sage 3 Wick Candle for ~SGD41 through Amazon. The Rituals The Ritual of Jing Scented Candle is available for ~SGD30 through the brand’s website.

2. De-stress with your skincare

Repeat it with us: skincare is self-care. The repetitive steps of applying your different products can help your mind disconnect from the day's worries. Farhanah makes sure she sets time aside for masking at least two to three times a week. Roanna's 30-minute skincare regimen is the perfect way to unwind.

Our picks: Roanna also massages her face with the FOREO Bear Microcurrent Facial Toning Device and her eye area with the Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Gel, which helps her "massage away" the worries of the day.

The FOREO Bear Microcurrent Facial Toning Device is available for SGD469 through Lazada, Sephora, Tangs, and Takashimaya. The Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Gel is available for SGD25 through Qoo10.

3. Eat good to feel good

Gut health can also help minimise your stress points. Farhanah shared that improving her diet helped her manage her eczema, which was a source of insecurity for her growing up. Having a well-balanced diet not only made her look good as a result, but it also made her feel good inside and out.

Our picks: Fibre-rich food like veggies and fruits are a staple in our meals. Food with probiotics, such as yoghurt, can also boost gut health!

4. Get a good night's sleep

Our bodies have a natural reset button that can help refresh them from negativity, stress, and anxiety. Yes, it's a good night's sleep. To help lull your mind into dreamland, you can spritz some sleeping spray on your pillows.

Our picks: Roanna prefers the thisworks Sleep+ Hair Elixir, which has the added benefit of nourishing your hair while leaving the pleasant relaxing aroma of herbal extracts and essential oils behind.

The thisworks Sleep+ Hair Elixir is available for SGD47 through Sephora.
