Whether you're a fan of jaw-dropping action, thought-provoking dramas, or animated masterpieces, there's something for everyone. From the Wicked sequel to Mickey 17, 2025 is set to bring us highly anticipated films, including one from Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho. Here are the top seven movies you won’t want to miss in 2025.

1. Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good is the follow-up to the mesmerising first chapter that had everyone holding space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity in 2024. While the first instalment delivered plenty of emotional highs, director Jon M. Chu (known for Crazy Rich Asians) teased that part two will take things up a notch. Speaking to Variety, he described the sequel as “a doozy” regarding its emotional weight.

Genre: Fantasy, Musical

Cast: Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey.

Mark your calendars: 21 November 2025

2. Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 Disney body-swap classic Freaky Friday. The plot takes place 20 years after the events of the original, with Harper being Anna’s (Lindsay Lohan) daughter and Lily the daughter of Anna’s fiancé, Eric Davis, a suave British restaurateur. The two girls trade bodies with Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna, forcing the characters to navigate the digital-TikTok era and teenage drama — all while sorting out their personal lives.

Genre: Comedy, Family

Cast: Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chad Michael Murray, Manny Jacinto

Mark your calendars: 8 August 2025

3. Superman

We will miss Henry Cavill as Superman, but we all have to move on and embrace the new man stepping in to wear the iconic red cape. David Corenswet, known for his roles in Ryan Murphy's The Politician and Hollywood, gives off endearingly awkward Clark Kent vibes, which makes his secret Superman identity more believable. James Gunn's version of Superman is shaping up to be more comic book-accurate, with an updated suit design and the addition of Krypto the Superdog.

Unlike previous iterations of the DC superhero, the 2025 version leans more heavily into themes of hope, compassion, and heroism — core aspects of Superman’s character that fans have long been yearning for.

Genre: Superhero, Adventure

Cast: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced

Mark your calendars: 11 July 2025

4. Mickey 17

Bong Joon-ho is back with a highly anticipated new project called Mickey 17. If you're a fan of his movies, especially Parasite, then you can expect another nail-biting plot that will keep your eyes glued to the screen. The story is based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7, the story takes place in a near-future world where human bodies can be endlessly replicated or “printed” after death, complete with their previous memories.

However, due to a critical malfunction, we see two versions of Mickey existing at the same time. The whole movie will be a chaotic, thought-provoking exploration of identity, mortality, and the implications of cloning gone wrong.

Genre: Science Fiction, Thriller

Cast: Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo

Mark your calendars: 7 March 2025
