Japanese Makeup Brand Kate Tokyo Is Leaving Singapore

All the deets you need to know

It’s a sad day today for Kate Tokyo’s fans in Singapore. The Japanese makeup brand has announced that it will be exiting the Singaporean market by 30 June 2022 — 12 years after it opened in The Little Red Dot.

Kate Tokyo is famed for its eye and face products. Its eyeliners are especially favoured for their high quality and affordability.

Singaporean fans can still buy Kate Tokyo products, including bestsellers like Kate Tokyo Super Sharp Eyeliner, at its usual retailers while stock lasts.

Why Kate Tokyo is leaving Singapore

The move is the brand’s parent company, KAO Singapore’s effort to streamline operations and focus on skincare brands including suisai, freeplus, Curel, Allie, as well as prestige brands like KANEBO and est. KAO is reportedly also thinking of discontinuing more of its cosmetics brands as the impact of the pandemic persists.

The news of Kate Tokyo’s exit comes only a month after Korean brand ETUDE, which also has a younger demographic, announced that it will be shuttering its brick-and-mortar stores in Singapore.

Kate Tokyo’s products are still available for purchase while stock lasts at Watsons, Lazada Singapore, Shopee Singapore and in-store at Don Don Donki, Welcia- BHG and other Kate Tokyo retailers.
