Already prepping for the weekend? Don’t stop on our account! In fact, stock up on some good vibes with our lineup of exciting headlines. Let’s talk about BLACKPINK Lisa’s potential fashion line, Millie Bobby Brown for Penshoppe, and more in this week’s Insider Roundup.
BLACKPINK Lisa is rumoured to soon open her own fashion line
Hold on to your hats, BLINKS! YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s agency, reportedly copyrighted Lisa’s name recently, which sparked rumours of an upcoming fashion line. The Pop Hub reported the agency registered a new trademark filing for “Manobal Lalisa” and “Manobal” (iterations of Lisa’s birthname), as merchandising labels. If approved, the trademark owner will have the right to produce “outer clothing, ready-made clothing; underwear."
A collection from the K-pop girl group’s main dancer, who has been known for her edgy ensembles on and off the stage, is naturally anticipated not just by fans, but also fashion lovers. However, fans of the girl group have also started to worry about the news for several reasons.
One, YG Entertainment has been in numerous scandals recently over poor treatment of their talents, their CEO being charged with drug and gambling charges, and more. Next, fans also wondered why Lisa was getting special attention over the rest of her group members, again referencing YG’s history of mishandling talents. Lastly, others view it as YG’s way of locking Lisa to their agency, since copyrighting her name means that should she leave the company, she can never use her name "Lalisa", her surname "Manoban" or "BLACKPINK Lisa" both as a stage name and for other potential projects. As much as we’re excited about half of this news, we can’t help but wonder if there's more reason for concern.
Is Phoebe Philo making a comeback?
Are you a fan of the former Céline creative director? Well, from one fashion-related news to the next, WWD’s recent report suggests that Phoebe Philo is planning her comeback soon after a three-year hiatus. The English designer known for creating Céline’s signature feminine silhouettes and elegant ensembles for over a decade is said to join the fashion sustainability track and has been recently interviewing fellow designers to align with her plans. While nothing is still set in stone, such buzz is still worth every bit of excitement, don’t you think?
Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown is Penshoppe’s latest ambassador
It wasn’t that far along when the Filipino fashion brand announced BLACKPINK Lisa as their latest ambassador. And now, joining her along with other international personalities like Kendall Jenner and Jordan Barrett is none other than Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown. The 15-year-old actress is serving some looks on the brand’s official socials, wearing the brand’s summer collection to which we give 11 out of 10.
SK-II launches #NoCompetition campaign
Speaking of things that are 11 out of 10, cult-favourite beauty brand SK-II launches their #NoCompetition campaign as one of Tokyo 2020 Olympics' official sponsors. Headlined by medal-winning athletes like Simone Biles (gymnastics), Mahina Maeda (surfing), and Ishikawa Kasumi (table tennis), the campaign aims to fight against harsh criticism women often face when it comes to unrealistic beauty standards — especially when they are being pitted against each other to make such comparisons. With the attention the sports event is getting even prior to its official start, the brand aims to set their message across globally to end "toxic competition" women — athlete or not — face every day.
