Wedding Makeup Looks You Can DIY

For that special day

We’ve all scrolled through Pinterest looking for wedding makeup looks we can wear as guests for the special occasion. You may be tempted to book a makeup artist right now, but it may be a bit hard to find one who’s available because of the pandemic. If you’re feeling confident in your own makeup application skills, why not try doing it on your own instead? Here are some looks you can DIY.

Naturally flushed

Whether you’re a bride or a guest, you can never go wrong with a natural makeup look. Instead of going for fully matte and contoured makeup, the key to nailing this look is using a foundation with buildable coverage and some light pink blush. Filipino beauty influencer Raiza Contawi recreated this natural, glowing wedding makeup look from Filipino celebrity Alex Gonzaga’s wedding.

Be wedding-ready: Cream blush formulas are the way to go. They melt in your skin and have a smaller chance of transferring to your mask. Raiza used the Issy & Co x Alex Gonzaga Creme Blush in Good Girl and Stunner (PHP329/~USD7). And, in case you want a perfect recreation, Stunner was also the original blusher used for Alex Gonzaga’s bridal look.

Mask-ready makeup

Wedding makeup looks nowadays need to be mask-ready. One way you can do your makeup for the special day is by emphasising your eyes with the right eyeshadow and lash products. South Korean professional makeup artist Jung Saem Mool demonstrated this simple but flattering eye look, which is also perfect for hooded eyes and fair skin. She used a blend of pink and light brown eyeshadow, keeping the darker colours closer to the lashline. She then emphasised it with some false lashes and a light coat of mascara.

Be wedding-ready: Don’t forget to curl your eyelashes. Instead of black mascara, use brown to keep it natural but still blend with your false eyelashes. She used the JUNG SAEM MOOL Refining Lash Fit Mascara in Scarlet Brown (SGD34/~USD25) that adds volume and curl to your lashes.

Gilded and smokey

Want to really emphasise your gaze? If you’re attending a wedding that’s set for the late afternoon, this mesmerising makeup look by Charlotte Tilbury is exactly what you need. It uses bronze and copper shades for the eyes as well as the right amount of bronzer to warm up the complexion. Ladies with tan and deeper skin tones will appreciate this bronze goddess look.

Be wedding-ready: To achieve the same smokey eye effect, layer Charlotte Tilbury’s The Feline Flick in Panther (USD30) and Rock ‘N’ Kohl in Bedroom Black (USD27).

Minimalist and luminous

If you have any freckles or skin texture you want to feature, this wedding makeup look inspired by Meghan Markle’s bridal look is easy to DIY. Start by prepping your skin with your go-to skincare and luminous primer before applying a sheer complexion product. You can lightly set it with some translucent powder or add more glow with some liquid highlighter.

Be wedding-ready: Use a lightweight and glowy foundation like the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Fluid Foundation (SGD90/~USD66.84) that lets your skin be the star of the moment.

Timelessly sophisticated

Lastly, you can never go wrong with wearing the classic red lipstick. It’s festive — red is often worn by brides in Asian weddings — but you can tweak it as you see fit. If you don’t like the look of scarlet red lips, a soft berry red hue is a good alternative, especially if you’re a guest. On the other hand, you can choose any shade of red you like if you’re the bride! There are deep reds, corals, burnt scarlets, and more to choose from. To balance it out, keep your eye look neutral with soft eyeshadow colours and lightly lined eyes.

Be wedding-ready: If you want to sport some bold red lips for your wedding makeup look, you can layer two liquid lippies for maximum impact. The Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Bawse (SGD38/~USD28.22) and the NYX Professional Makeup Line & Load All-In-One Lippie in Biker Babe (USD8) were used in the video above.
