The MTV VMAs 2022 concluded on an epic note, with Taylor Swift announcing the launch of her new album, Midnights, which will be released on 21 October and BLACKPINK’s Lisa making history as the first K-pop soloist to win Best K-pop Act.
Beyond these jaw-dropping moments, we were also enamoured by some of the celebrities’ trendsetting beauty looks — from Lizzo’s metallic blue lips and Brazilian singer Anitta's mono-'rosematic' makeup to Dove Cameron’s goth-punk aesthetic. Read on for a brief recap.
Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter: Sleek, silver lining
Taylor Swift was arguably the main star of the night — she made a surprise appearance at the event, accepted three awards for All Too Well (10 Minute Version) Taylor’s Version, and of course, officially announced the release date of her upcoming album, Midnights.
Glam-wise, the 32-year-old shone on the red carpet in makeup by Pat McGrath. Her crystal-inspired makeup features Pat McGrath Labs’ latest Mothership X: Moonlit Seduction Eye Palette and popular Skin Fetish Highlighter + Balm Duo. Her signature crimson lips were created using the LiquiLUST Legendary Matte Lipstick.
Over at Sabrina Carpenter’s, the singer played up the beauty of her silver-blue eyes with matching eyeshadow and cat eye makeup. She completed her glam with a rose-coloured pout and defined auburn eyebrows.
Dove Cameron: Punk comes out to play
Is that a leather neck choker that we see on Dove Cameron? Yes, yes it is. The emerging actress and singer went the goth-meets-punk route with her white under-eye eyeliner, braided hairstyle and OTT manicure. Dove Cameron went home with the Best New Artist award.
Lizzo: Fabulous faux piercings
About Damn Time singer Lizzo turned out not one, but three stellar red carpet outfits during the show. Her all-black gown was complemented by silver jewellery, chrome nails as well as a nose-to-ear chain. For her midnight blue look, she sported a dramatic blue lip colour and topped it off with a lip ring and matching earrings. There’s no doubt that Lizzo was the beauty MVP of the VMAs! She also took home the Video for Good award for About Damn Time.
Honourable mentions: Dixie D’Amelio’s jet black brows and Anitta’s ‘mono-rose’ makeup
TikTok superstar Dixie D’Amelio embodied the ‘Night Luxe’ aesthetic with her kohl-rimmed eyes, spiky low bun and sequin dress. She also sported strong, bushy brows and luscious lashes. Meanwhile, Brazilian superstar Anitta showed up in monochromatic rose makeup, which was crafted to perfection by none other than celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta and his assistant Kelli Anne. Anitta won the Best Latin award for her dance hit Envolver.
