All The Best And The Brightest Makeup Looks From NYFW

Game-changing beauty

As we saw in the just-concluded New York Fashion Week September 2020 presentations, it appears the future of fashion and beauty is not at all that bleak. As a number of labels found innovative ways to showcase their creations in the new normal, we were treated to a wide array of shows that pushed the boundaries of aesthetics. Aside from glimpsing masterfully crafted pieces from famed designers, we also saw striking makeup looks to boot! For all the beauty junkies out there on the lookout for new beauty trends to inspire their next experiment, ahead, we round up all the best ones from the week.

Coloured brows

Up-and-coming New York-based designer Jackson Wiederhoeft puts a theatrically whimsical twist on the Mother Goose fairy tales we've come to know in his Spring / Summer 2021 pieces. The collection, reimagined in a comic book experience, featured frills, corsets, and bows in popping hues and silhouettes. To complete his ensembles, makeup artist Raisa Flowers created equally showstopping looks with MAC Cosmetics products. Vibrant shadows were applied on the eyes and, paired with coloured arches, these might just be the thing we need to take our masked makeup looks up a notch.

Coloured mascara and pomade from Etude House and KVD Vegan Beauty

Try the look: Using a pigmented eyeshadow to fill your brows would work, but for colour that holds, use a coloured mascara. Etude House Dual Wide Eyes Mascara is available in violet, and its smaller bent brush would help you blend the colour into your brows better. Or, better yet, use a brow pomade like this multi-tasking KVD Vegan Beauty Super Pomade for a colour that lasts.

Shimmering gradients

Speaking of masked makeup, get more inspo from Chromat's presentations in this season of NYFW. With their colour-coordinated outfits, the bodywear brand makes a case for athletic inclusivity. To match Instapump pairs made with Reebok were their neon sportswear and protective masks. The finishing touch? Metallic gradient shadows that outlined the peepers. We're definitely copping these striking looks ASAP.

Metallic makeup products

Try the look: Play with the glittering hues of Milani Cosmetics Gilded Jewel Palette to cop their metallic shadows. But wait, before you do, don't forget to apply an eyeshadow primer like this one from Urban Decay to make sure the colours pop for hours.

Party colours

Of course, makeup isn't just for going out. For zoom parties or for when you're simply in the mood to spice up your look at home, look no further than Tom Ford's makeup looks. Their New York Fashion Week September 2020 show featured comfortable luxe pieces perfect for lounging. It's all laidback and fun, and to express this joyful vibe, models wore vivid hues from Tom Ford Beauty. Pink glossy lips and purple shadows made the look, but it's the falsies and the lengthening mascara that definitely makes it extra.

Traditional beauty

Who says we can't look to the past to create more trends? Tomo Koizumi definitely did not. Drawing elements from traditional Japanese culture, his pristine bridal looks and rainbow dresses were complemented with makeup reminiscent of those during the Edo era. White, red, and black hues dominated the palette. The sharply winged eyes are a highlight, but we especially loved how the lips were painted smaller with the scarlet rouge, staying true to the traditional look. Will this mark the end for overdrawn lips? Let's wait and see.

Try the look: With its precise tip, Lancome Artliner Eyeliner lets you cleanly draw lines so that you can ace that sleek cat-eye look. Follow it up with a bright red Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Amplified Matte Lipstick to finish the Japanese-inspired look.

Fresh-faced babe

In contrast to all these, there's Anna Sui's feminine Heartland Collection, a must-see for those loving the cottagecore aesthetic. The sustainable line, defined by its flowy pinafores and laced maxis, was showcased in New York Fashion Week September 2020 presentations with Pat MacGrath adorning the models with a fresh bare-faced look. The twist? She adds delicate flowers and butterfly accents to embody the season of new beginnings. And with artistic looks like cloud makeup filling our feeds in the recent months, we don't mind having to try this one out for the 'Gram.
