The Legend Of Shen Li: plot, cast, and more

Zhao Liying and Lin Geng Xin are co-stars in The Legend Of Shen Li. Fun fact: they previously worked together in Princess Agents back in 2017. In this new series, Zhao Liying plays a demon lord from the Immortal Realm with the title of Lord Bicang (Shen Li is her real name). She refuses to marry her fiancé from the Divine Realm. The marriage is very political by nature as it’s meant to unite both realms, but Lord Bicang doesn’t want to marry someone she doesn’t love and has a reputation for being a playboy. After being chased by the guards and struck in the chest by her subordinate, she falls into the mortal realm.

There, she turns into a phoenix (whom the commoners think is a mere chicken that’s good for stew) and is unable to get back to her spiritual form. Enter Xing Yun (played by Lin Geng Xin), a mortal who feeds her and nurses her back to health. Shen Li finds herself growing more attracted towards this mortal who seems to have spiritual powers of his own too. Will Shen Li and Xing Yun find romance?

Aside from our main leads, you can look forward to the performances of Xin Yun Lai as Mo Fang, the character destined to be the second male lead, Zeng Li as Mu Yue AKA Shen Li's master, and more.

36-year-old actress and singer Zhao Liying perfectly portrays the multi-faceted character of Shen Li. She’s a wonderful choice for a strong female lead, and you’ll enjoy seeing her deathly stares and hearing her sweet voice too. She’s a fearless warrior to her enemies and a tenderhearted protector to Xing Yun during their time in the mortal realm.

Zhao Liying’s chemistry with actor Lin Geng Xin is off the charts as well. You’ll enjoy their bickering moments and how their relationship grows from fondness to something deeper.

2. The captivating visual effects

Some of the visual effects in this drama could rival Marvel movies like Doctor Strange or The Legend of Shang-Chi. You can truly tell that it’s a high-production drama with mesmerising magical formations as well as battle scenes in the heavenly realms.

Outside the visual effects, the natural landscapes showcased in the drama look stunning as well, especially during the serene moments of the drama. The costumes are also meticulously selected, as expected from a xianxia (meaning a Chinese fantasy series). You can bet that your eyes won’t be disappointed.

3. The story’s harmonious blend of humour and fantasy

Before taking us to its rich lore and letting us into the majestic kingdoms in the skies, the drama pulls us in with the ordinary yet endearing moments in the mortal realm. You’ll find yourself hooked when you realise that it isn’t as overwhelming as you might have thought it would be.
