How Our Favourite Brands Are Celebrating International Women's Day 2020

Embracing empowerment

International Women's Day is just around the corner — it's this Sunday, 8 March, to be exact! — so we're all for messages that empower, inspire, and salute our fellow women. Curious to see how your favourite fashion and beauty brands are celebrating with you this IWD 2020? We lined them up below.

Celebrate gender equality with Charles & Keith

#EachforEqual: Charles & Keith on celebrating gender equality this IWD 2020

Empowerment entails lifting other people up and having them see the best in themselves. Charles & Keith embraces this idea with their International Women's Day 2020 campaign called Beyond Voices. In line with IWD's global campaign hashtag #EachforEqual, the brand aims to raise awareness not just on female empowerment but also gender equality. Headlined by the likes of Netherlands-based fashion stylist Lizzy Van Der Ligt and Singapore-based creative director Nellie Lim, Charles & Keith's campaign encourages everyone to post portraits doing the #EachforEqual pose on Instagram and nominating a friend to participate in the initiative starting today, 6 March.

Champion girl power with Rustan's The Beauty Source

Speaking of making statements in the name of womanhood, Rustan's The Beauty Source also champions girl power this March with a four-day affair called #GRLPWR: Be The Change You Want To See. It kicked off yesterday with a dialogue between multi-hyphenated women in today's Philippine beauty, lifestyle, and fashion scene — namely, journalist Karen Davila, TV host and personality Bianca Gonzales, Happy Skin co-founder Rissa Mananquil-Trillo, and celebrity stylist Liz Uy. The rest of the event should not be missed either as amazing surprises are in store for everyone who aims to drop by. Visit Rustan's Shangri-La Plaza to experience more programmes, masterclasses, and deals that celebrate empowerment, self-care, and beauty exclusively accessible until 8 March.

Be unbreakable with Benefit

Speaking of beauty dialogues, Benefit Singapore also has an inspiring panel for their Benebabes this IWD 2020. Content creators and inspiring girl bosses Cassandra (@caxs), Xixi (@xixilimofficial) and Christabel (@bellywellyjelly) join the brand's current #MyUnbreakableMoment campaign which celebrates women's ability to withstand any challenge that comes our way.

Inspired by their best-selling Precisely, My Brow Pencil, which can hold up to 25 times its own weight (a little tidbit for you, in case you don't know), this Instagram initiative on 8 March gives ladies who join the chance to win a Benefit x Sephora Unbreakable Kit worth SGD258. If you're looking to treat yourself on International Women's Day, this is the sign you're looking for!

Spark inspiration with The Body Shop Singapore

International Women's Day 2020 - The Body Shop Singapore

Restocking your vanity with some The Body Shop faves? This may be the sign you're looking for.

From learning from inspiring women to knowing women who inspire YOU, The Body Shop Singapore invites you this International Women's Day 2020 to put the spotlight on those who sparked a difference in your life. By using the hashtag #MyTrueInspo, the brand aims to encourage everyone to celebrate the not-so-ordinary women in our lives and "shout out to the ones who fight the good fight, the ones who champion and empower others." Whether it be your mum, your yoga instructor, or your friendly neighbour, we say take the opportunity to salute them for the occasion with this simple yet inspiring initiative.

Plus, on 7 and 8 March, the brand also pledged to donate SGD1 from every transaction made in stores and on their official Lazada online store to support Daughters Of Tomorrow, an organisation dedicated to helping underprivileged women in being financially independent. Talk about the perfect time to restock on your The Body Shop faves, right?

Go in style for schooling with Fossil

International Women's Day 2020 - Fossil

Fossil goes stylish and socially responsible for International Women's Day 2020. Which of these suit your fancy?

Since we're on the topic of shopping for a cause, IWD is truly great timing to also browse some fashion finds from Fossil. Their latest limited collection with prolific LA illustrator and women-rights advocate Bijou Karman is not only eye-catching style-wise but also benefit Girl Rising, a non-profit organisation that aims to provide education for underprivileged girls. Comprised of fewer than 14 pieces per item, the collection includes '50s Pop Art-inspired bags, earrings, and watches that support schooling.

Envision change with Chloé

International Women's Day 2020 - Chloé

Chloé's in it for the long-haul with this three-year partnership with UNICEF

Last but not least is Chloé's upcoming campaign called Girls Forward, in partnership with UNICEF this 8 March. Fronted by Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, Murder On Orient Express), Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek, Batman Begins), and Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), this collaboration goes beyond International Women's Day 2020 and kickstarts a three-year initiative between the fashion brand and the global organisation. Aiming to advance gender equality, as well as encourage the excellence of adolescent girls in future workplaces, the brand is launching a special collection comprised of apparel and accessories whose proceeds will go to the UNICEF fund starting 6 March.

Now, we don't know about you, but we say shopping gets even more fun when initiatives like these are on the line. Being enablers of our own personal empowerment, beauty and fashion becomes extra special when it helps us uplift and support others, don't you think? Happy International Women's Day, ladies!
