Trend To Try: The Blazer & Bralette Combo

Staying chic and cool

From layering a sparkly diamond pendant necklace over an old grey sweatshirt to styling a feminine floral dress with a pair of chunky sneakers, we’re no strangers to the delightful, fashion-forward results of the combination of two opposing elements. The blazer and bralette combo is a testament to this too. The pairing has made its return to the runway and “real” way recently and we’re eager to create our own iterations of this heat-friendly trend as well. Ahead, some styling ideas.

As seen at Saint Laurent and Jonathan Simkhai

Over at Saint Laurent, we see the French luxury fashion house styling its signature tailored, double-breasted blazers with vintage-inspired camisoles and high-waisted shorts in its Spring 2021 collection. Similarly, at Jonathan Simkhai, the womenswear label showcased an ensemble consisting of a plaid double-breasted blazer, a lingerie-style inner piece and a pair of relaxed trousers as part of its Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Instead of opting for feminine silk and lace a là Saint Laurent, the latter’s bralette of choice was made of cotton blend material to exude a more casual, loungewear-ready vibe.

Feminine bralette with an oversized blazer

Wearing a bralette as a top outside of your home might not be appropriate in conservative, formal settings as it’s still largely regarded as a piece of lingerie or innerwear. However, when styled with a smart blazer and high-waisted bottoms, it instantly becomes a cool fashion ‘fit where you’re subtly showing some skin without looking provocative.

Above, Oslo-based digital content creator @xoxotsumi looked effortlessly chic in her blazer, bikini-esque top, gingham pants and sneakers. Her get-up is made for those who’d like to dip their toes into this lingerie-as-outerwear trend, given how it keeps the legs and shoulders comfortably under wraps.

Take inspiration from Tsutsumi’s outfit and go with Oysho’s bralette, which is made from floral lace fabric and features a triangle neckline to visually lengthen the wearer’s upper body frame. Then, throw H&M’s double-breasted jacket over it and complete your ensemble with a pair of tailored trousers and understated accessories. Consider embracing this elegant ensemble for intimate dinner dates with your beau.

Sporty bralette with a short suit

Short suits are incredibly suitable for our hot and humid climate and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the choice of accessories. Above, Vietnamese actress and content creator @lehatruc went with a floral-printed short suit, a multi-coloured top handle bag and a sportier-looking bralette. We reckon her outfit can take you stylishly from quick, shopping trips in the city to brunch dates with your best friends.

Cotton On Body bralette and Zara houndstooth blazer and shorts

Love Ha Truc’s look? Re-create it with Cotton On Body’s rib crop bralette and Zara’s matching blazer and shorts. The Cotton On bralette is made from nylon blend material for easy comfort, while the Zara short suit’s dreamy blue hue makes it perfect for daytime affairs. As for accessories, we recommend that you opt for simple, minimalistic designs to keep the focus on the suit’s bold houndstooth print.

Comfy knit bralette with a pastel blazer

Take your favourite loungewear separates from the couch to the city with the help of a sleek, pastel-coloured blazer. Need some pointers? See Brazilian content creator @camilacoelho’s cheerful and chic ensemble above, which sees her styling her grey knit bralette and shorts co-ord with a buttermilk-hued blazer. For finishing touches, Camila added a pair of cat-eye sunglasses, a matching black mini bag and gold jewellery.

Take a walk on the bright side just like Camila with the Jacquemus ribbed-knit bralette, which features a scoop neckline and wear it underneath the Collusion satin blazer, which comes with padded shoulders. If yellow’s not your cup of tea, you can also consider other hues such as peach, lavender and mint.
