5 Last-Minute Glam Makeup Looks For New Year's Eve

Welcome 2022 with glitz and glam

We can all agree that we’re more than ready to leave 2021 in the past. Now, what better way to set the tone for the year to come than by glamming up for it? Add a little dazzle by putting some glitter (that's safe for the eyes, of course!) on your lids. Invite liveliness and fun into 2022 with your boldest red lipstick. Ring in the new year with a fresh new look. Here are some last-minute makeup looks for New Year’s Eve you can easily do.

Coloured floating eyeliner

It Girl Zendaya served a lot of beautiful makeup looks this year, but our fave is the blue triple liner she wore to the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie premiere. Valentino Beauty Global Makeup Artist Raoul Alejandre created this stunning look with a mix of electric blue, black, and white eyeliners. However, you can still achieve it with other colours in your arsenal. Check out the ones we used in a BeauTea Talk video.

Make it your own: Veer away from the black and amp up the colour. Achieve the look with an affordable option: the limited-edition Ciaté London x Edna Mode Collection Gel Eyeliner (SGD25/~USD18.46) that comes in aqua blue and coral pink.

Be generous with the purple

Purple blush is a TikTok makeup trend you can sport as the year closes. Set yourself up for success by using a cream or liquid blush, so you can easily blend the colour on your cheeks. Most of the people who have tried the trend keep it on the apples of their cheeks or on their cheekbones, as seen in the video, but you can definitely experiment with a drunk blush look too.

Make it your own: Step out of your comfort zone and go for a very, very pigmented purple blush. Pick up the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush (SGD33/~USD24.37) in Faith, a deep berry purple hue with a matte finish. Apply two dots on your cheeks, blend it out with a brush to evenly diffuse the colour, and follow it up with a damp makeup sponge to blend onto your skin.

A little hint of glitter

Start off the year with some sparkle by dabbing on some glitter on your eyes. Korean makeup artist PONY shows how to do a fun natural makeup look. She starts off by using a cushion foundation to even out her skin. Then, she subtly lines her upper lash line and adds a light application of mascara in preparation for the glitter eyeshadow. To make it festive, she not only applies the glitter on her eyelids but also under her eyes to brighten them up.

Make it your own: Instead of sticking to just one colour of glitter eyeshadow, why not mix in some gold and multi-chrome for maximum impact? PONY used the HOLIKA HOLIKA Eye Spanglitter (SGD12.39/~USD8.37) in this last-minute makeup look, and we’re happy to report that it comes in seven shades that range from pink to champagne to silver. If you want something more opaque, the One/Size Eye Popper Sparkle Vision Eyeshadow (SGD36/~USD27), which comes in six colours, can be worn on its own or as an eyeshadow topper.

Light smokey eyes

If you want more colour for your last-minute makeup look for New Year’s Eve, you can always go for a toned-down smokey eye look. Singapore’s Mongchin Yeoh a.k.a. Mongabong took on Vlogmas by giving her intern a makeup makeover, which included a variation of the smokey eye makeup look but for hooded eyes. She applied the lighter brown shades all over the eyelids, before focusing the darker shades on the outer “V” of the eyes. If you have hooded eyes, keep your eyes open while applying eyeshadow so you can see the areas where the eyeshadow would be more visible instead of having it “disappear” once you fully open your eyes.

Make it your own: Smokey eye makeup doesn’t have to be always done in browns, beiges, and golds. You can play with pink, plum, and peachy eyeshadow shades as well. Mongabong used shades from the Etude Play Colour Eyes in Maple Road (SGD34.90/~USD26.26), Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look In A Palette (USD75), and the Milani Soft and Sultry Eyeshadow Palette (SGD43.40/~USD32.66) for this look, but Charlotte Tilbury also has the Instant Eye Palette Pillow Talk (SGD130/~USD97.83) that offers a wider range of pink eyeshadow shades you can play with. If you need a more shimmery pastel look to match your New Year's Ever outfit, the Urban Decay The Vegan Naked Cyber Eyeshadow Palette (SGD83/~USD61) is a good option.

A bold red lip

And lastly, you can never go wrong with a bold red lip for a very last-minute makeup look for New Year’s Eve. Filipino makeup artist Anthea Bueno shows how you can apply a red liquid lipstick in two different ways. As always, start by prepping your lips with a lip balm or mask to keep them plump and nourished. A full lip application has a lot of impact on its own, so it’s perfect if you want a bolder look that accentuates your pout. Meanwhile, a feathered lip leaves the edges blurred but creates a more youthful appearance. Keep the rest of your face “bare” by just doing your basic mascara and eyebrow routine instead. The result: an easy, effortlessly sophisticated holiday look.

Make it your own: Anthea used the YSL Beauty Tatouage Couture Velvet Cream Liquid Lipstick in Rouge Tatouage (SGD55/~USD41.39) but you can go even deeper with the shades Chili Incitement or Rouge Rebel. A slightly more wallet-friendly option, yet still comes makeup artist-approved, is the limited-edition MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour In Ruby Boo (SGD42/~USD31), the hydrating matte version of the cult-fave MAC Ruby Woo lipstick.
