For this month's last full week, join us as we talk through details on where to access free e-books and films during this quarantine period, the 411 on Shiseido's new brand BAUM and more, in this week's Insider Roundup.

Paolo Coelho, Scribd, Audible open access to free e-books this quarantine period

Platforms like Scribd and Verso have recently opened access to thousands of e-books during this quarantine period, in the hopes of providing comfort to those frantic about the current global pandemic. Renowned writer Paolo Coelho has also opened some of his e-books to the public via his website, in solidarity with addressing the current global situation.

Many platforms have also opened access to academic content in the wake of COVID-19. Audible, a Spotify-like platform for audiobooks, has made access to a variety of children and teen titles for free while the health crisis persists. Digital repository of academic journals JSTOR has also made part of its library open to the public, allowing access to over 6,000 e-books and over a hundred academic journals.

Broadway hits, movies also stream online for free amid the pandemic

Aside from the latest Hollywood films being released online early, streaming platforms, filmmakers and TV networks have also come together to release their movies online for free amid the pandemic.

BroadwayHD, a Netflix-like platform which has been catering to Broadway fans since 2015, has opened a seven-day free trial period for access to their library of over 300 Broadway hits in full high definition. For Asian film fanatics, Filipino film production companies like Regal EntertainmentTBA Studios and filmmakers like Kip Oebanda have released their films in full on YouTube for free public viewing. More platforms are expected to follow suit as the weeks of community quarantine continue to stretch given the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases.
