Accessories That Stole The Spotlight This NYFW 2020

It's all in the details

It's time for New York Fashion Week once again. With that, as expected, all eyes are on the international fashion talents presenting their works in the Big Apple. Like you, we're on the lookout for trends that sparkle on the runway, anticipating which would eventually trickle down to the vibrant streets in the weeks to come. And this season, what truly caught our eyes are tiny details that made a bold statement. Ahead, here are some of the accessory trends from the NYFW Fall/Winter 2020.

Cover up

If anything, one thing we learned from the New York Fashion Week is that we can actually protect ourselves in style. Granted, it's quite sad that we now have to wear masks to maintain our health, especially given the worsening pollution and the nCov threat. But luxury apparel brand The Blonds helps us find the silver lining in the grim reality by partnering with the award-winning Japanese brand, Pitta Mask. Together, they crafted custom masks for the show. Anti-pollution, bedazzled, and laced with flowers? How can we say no to this stylish necessity?

Pretty pierced

This year, piercings are taking over the streets and the runway. Once commonly associated with punk culture, the accessory is now embraced by the mainstream as a glam way to personalise your style. Countless models have strutted across the runway with these. In particular, some of those who presented the creations of Australian designer Dion Lee were adorned by a variety of kinds: simple studs, hoops, and even chains. Would you be keen to try this accessory trend?

Retro shades

Style reminiscent of the 70s is making a major comeback. Big, bold, statement sunnies with silhouettes that are a nod to the disco decade have been spotted in a number of NYFW Fall/Winter 2020 shows. You'll find huge square frames lightly tinted to round ones glittered with gems. But one favourite that comes to mind are the cat eye sunglasses that completed Anna Sui's signature gothic grunge looks.

Chain reaction

Speaking of eye-catching details, chains are another striking one we saw that dominated the accessory trends of NYFW Fall/Winter 2020 are the chains. You'll find metallic links featured in many accessories across different shows. We've spotted it as earrings, necklaces, on belts, and more. We're in love with how this small detail added edginess to Rebecca Minkoff's hot pink Love Too Micro Bag.

Fabulously functional

We're totally obsessed with this necklace with a phone case and mini purse attached from Tom Ford. It's multi-functional and fashionable — the perfect accessory we all need. Say goodbye to bags, because this will be the only thing you need to store your most basic essentials.

All tied up

Since it's the Fall/Winter season, we're all expecting to see warming accessories like scarves featured in the shows. Zimmermann makes a case for the stylish versatility of this accessory by having the models wear it all sorts of ways. Yes, tying it around your neck is one classic way, but you can also wear it around your waist, or even wear it under a thin leather belt to give your look a boho appeal.

Largely charming

Overall, we seem to be moving away from subtle jewellery. Gone are the days of understated elegance. Now, we're enjoying the hugely delightful charm of oversized accessories. Gigantic hats, golden collar necklaces and maximalist layered charms have been worn in this season's shows. Throughout the week, we've also seen different renditions of drop earrings ranging from the more simple hoops to cuffs quirkily beaded. Tory Burch shows us all the fun possibilities for style with the peapod earrings and chunky cocktail rings that added a playful touch to her collection.
