Travel Through Beauty: Picks From Around The World

Going international

We might not be going outside of our countries anytime soon but that doesn’t mean we can’t let our minds wander. Speaking of, lately, we’ve been wondering about the top beauty picks in different parts of the world. For example, what’s the most popular lipstick in Japan? What’s a best-selling skincare product in Spain? If you’re also curious to know, here are picks you might want to hoard the next time you visit a certain country.

Japan

To start off, let's talk about lippies! Since lip tints are one of the most popular lip products right now, and in Japan, the brand Opera has a popular range of lip tints. Their Lip Tint N (JPY1,500/~USD14.01) has a unique formula that delivers a combination of three textures: rouge, tint, and oil. It leaves a vivid colour with a semi-matte shine on your lips. The best part? It doesn’t feel sticky at all. It’s one of the best-sellers in Japan, earning itself a place in the 2019 Cosme The Best Cosmetics Awards Hall of Fame.

Get it if: You’re prone to rushing. This lip tint is easy to apply and wouldn’t leave your fingers stained. Ideal for moments when you need a quick touch-up.

Thailand

Over in Thailand, one of the holy grail beauty products is the Srichand Translucent Powder (THB280/~USD8.73). With over 70 years of industry knowledge, their translucent powder has won accolades and awards from professionals and consumers alike. It controls shine and adds radiance to your skin without adding a cast or discolouring your liquid complexion products. This powder was so popular that they even made a version for men!

Get it if: Staying matte all day is your goal. This can be used as a setting powder or as a makeup primer.

India

In South Asia, the Indian cosmetics brand Lakme has been a staple in makeup bags since 1952. Their affordable products are said to be as good as those from international brands. If you’re looking for a good foundation pick, look to the Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse (INR800/~USD10.54). The lightweight, SPF-infused formula is raved about in India because it hides pores and evens out complexions to make skin look absolutely flawless.

Get it if: You’re interested in testing new textures. This complexion mousse comes in a pot and a whipped quality, so you get to be creative with how you use it.

Spain

Over in Spain, Skeyndor is one of the most beloved skincare brands. Banking on scientific research and strict testing, their products have gone global since their establishment in the '60s. Take note of their Uniq Cure Wrinkle Inhibiting Concentrate. Hailed as one of InStyle’s Best Beauty Buys of 2018, the potent ampoule has gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), “Botulin-like” and “snake venom-like” peptides to smoothen the skin from wrinkles and lines. They recommend using it as “maintenance or cosmetic alternative to interventions with botulinum toxin” a.k.a Botox.

Get it if: You’re curious about cosmetic enhancements. Treat it as a preview to the end look you want. Be warned, though — you might end up preferring this instead.

Hungary

To round up our international beauty finds, the Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm (USD175) is a best-selling cleansing balm often used in high-end spas. It gently removes makeup (including waterproof mascara) without stripping the skin of its moisture. Made with Hungarian Moor mud, which is rich in calcium and magnesium, the hydrating balm draws out impurities while leaving your skin soft and hydrated.

Get it if: Double-cleansing is an important step in your skincare routine. Since this is a gentle balm, your skin won’t feel rubbed raw but still feel clean and clear.
