‘I'll be here till you recall’: the beginnings of Regina Song’s music journey
Born just two days after Valentine’s Day on 16 February 2004, Regina Song has been drawn to music for as long as she can remember. From a young age, whenever she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer was always the same: a musician! That childhood spark grew and became her reality, and now, as a singer-songwriter, she is living out the dream she had always envisioned.
With the release of her debut album fangirl, Regina blends her identities as both an artist and a devoted fan. She shares, “I am such a huge fangirl of female singer-songwriters like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams — the list goes on. Their writing resonates with me so deeply, and their music has helped me through some really tough times. And in turn, I wanted to do that for someone else too.”

‘For years and years, I pined for only you’: Regina Song’s challenges in the music industry
Breaking into the music industry has not been without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles for Regina was navigating the complexities of marketing her music independently. She shares, “I knew that if I wanted my song to gain more exposure, I had to make unique content to make my song stand out.”

‘The sweetest love out there’: Regina Song on the viral success of the cutest pair
With over 34M streams on Spotify, Regina’s song the cutest pair has reached audiences far beyond what she initially anticipated. While she had a strong feeling that the track would be a fan favourite, its viral success took her by surprise. She shares, “There was this one comment that said ‘Thank you for making music for the soul’ and that filled me up with so much joy”.
One of the most touching moments for Regina has been hearing stories from fans who got together with their crushes because of the song. She gushes, “I love making love happen for people so much! I’m super honoured to have been part of someone’s life to such an extent.”
Finding and achieving fame in digital spaces means taking the good with the bad — including handling hate comments and learning to rise above them. She shares, “Of course, there are hate comments here and there, but it does not really affect me too much. I might get sad in the moment but I forget about it the next second because I’ll get busy reading the nice comments anyway.”

‘We were truly meant to be’: what’s next for Regina Song
Regina recently embarked on fangirl: the tour, which had stops in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Manila, where she introduced some unreleased songs for the very first time!

When it comes to her future projects, Regina plans to continue diving into the singer-songwriter genre. She shares, “I have always put a lot of emphasis on writing good lyrics and I could spend days refining a song till every word is perfect. Recently, I’ve been in the zone of writing a lot of sad songs like ballads.” We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it!
For aspiring artists, Regina offers valuable advice: “It is ideal that you pick who you’re comfortable working with. Keep a small circle of people who truly believe in you and have your back all the time. Work with the people who genuinely want to see you grow, people you can really be yourself around, and people who like you and can accept you for you. Your art must find a place to breathe, and it must be grown in the places you want it to grow in. Always prioritise the people.”
The singer is only getting started. Catch this talented star on 3 March 2025 at UGH! Singapore and on 22 and 23 March 2025 in the Philippines for the Wanderland Music Fest.
