Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Cast of ‘Resident Playbook’

Meet the fresh new faces

The doors of Yulje Medical Centre are swinging open once again! Resident Playbook, the highly anticipated Hospital Playlist spin-off, is set to introduce fresh new faces when it premieres on 12 April 2025. This new instalment follows first-year residents at Jongno Yulje Hospital as they navigate the pressures and chaos of the unpopular OB/GYN department in an era of low birth rates.

With Hospital Playlist setting a high standard, fans are going to expect the same energy for its spinoff. Resident Playbook promises the same heartfelt blend of medical realism, humour, and friendships that made its predecessor a fan favourite. P.S. Alchemy of Souls star Go Youn Jung stars in this series too.

Is Resident Playbook connected to Hospital Playlist?

While Resident Playbook takes place within the same hospital as Hospital Playlist, it shifts the focus to a different branch of Yulje Medical Centre. The first teaser even opens with a nostalgic nod to the original squad before introducing the new resident. The second teaser on the other hand threw viewers into the high-stakes world of first-year OB/GYN residents. With relentless shifts and little time to breathe, this new batch of doctors is in for the ride of their lives.

A few of the new cast members are familiar to many K-Drama fans, while the others are still new to the industry. From law school to start-ups, and even supernatural battles, a few of these actors have donned many roles before stepping into their white coats. Here’s everything you need to know about the cast of Resident Playbook.

Go Youn Jung as Oh Yi-Young

From courtroom dramas to fantasy epics, Go Youn Jung has built quite an impressive resume. Best known for her roles in Alchemy of Souls, Death’s Game, Law School, and Moving, you also might’ve seen her in He Is Psychometric, Sweet Home, and The School Nurse Files. She’ll also star in an upcoming Netflix K-drama Can This Love Be Translated alongside Kim Seon Ho. The girl is booked and busy!

In Resident Playbook, she plays Oh Yi-Young, a dedicated first-year OB/GYN resident with dreams of becoming a top doctor. One humorous moment in the teaser shows her character hiding from her professor (played by Lee Hyun Kyun). So, we’re excited to see how her character handles hospital duty.

Fun fact: Youn Jung holds a degree in Contemporary Art from Seoul Women’s University — so in addition to acting, she’s got some serious artistic abilities.

Kang You-Seok as Um Jae-Il

Kang You-Seok is no stranger to playing diverse roles. From a genius developer in Start-Up to Eun Myeong in When Life Gives You Tangerines, he’s steadily carving a name for himself in the industry. He also won over BL drama fans as Noh Shin Woo in Light On Me (2021), where he shared the screen with Lee Sae On.

In Hospital Playlist, Jeon Mi Do’s Chae Song-hwa was the only woman in her friend group. Now, in Resident Playbook, Kang You-Seok’s Um Jae-Il might be the only guy in the friend group.

Fun fact: Resident Playbook isn’t even his first medical drama! He had a small role in Dr. Romantic 2 — as a prisoner in the eighth episode. At least this time, he’s on the right side of the hospital bed.

Shin Si-A may not have a long list of drama credits, but her talent speaks for itself. In 2020, she landed the lead role in The Witch: Part 2 The Other One after an intense audition process, which included three rounds of auditions and five to six meetings with the director.

Her acting journey began with the short film Prasad, which tells the harrowing tale of a girl bullied online after surviving a bus accident—eventually transforming into a real witch. The film was even screened at the 18th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.

Fun fact: She fell in love with acting after watching Carmen in high school. To build confidence, she watched over four musicals per week. Talk about dedication!

Resident Playbook marks Han Ye Ji’s drama debut! She takes on the role of Kim Sa-Bi, one of the first-year OB/GYN residents.

While she’s a fresh face on screen, Ye Ji is no stranger to acting. A scroll through her Instagram reveals her stage performances and projects at the Korea National University of Arts, where she’s been honing her craft.

Could Resident Playbook be her breakout role? We’re excited to find out!
